My home is a mess

JPS look after yourself and ignore that carp on the chairs. Lets face it its normal in a messy members home and you can not be in this exclusive club without one,so there.
Found out that my ds had thread worms, ugh!. Everyone now medicated.
There is nothing like good old infestation to get the housework done.
Iv boiled all bedding and underwear, bleached the floors, used antibacterial wipes on all surfaces and generally scrubbed, hooverd and cleaned. Im shattered now.
DM arrived yesterday so I managed to off load lots of books, a mirror, laundry basket, dd bike, clothes, shoes and two shopping trollies on to her. Its a good job she has a space wagon, lol.
Mummybobble Iv a pile of ironing of dd to do but keep putting it off, I hate ironing and only tend to do it for, A,holidays and B, if we are going to wear them. This time though Iv decided to stop being lazy and make sure the ironing done at least for my dd.
Sonstain well done to your oh for doing some housework. It makes all the difference when they help. I have to prompt my oh and kids to do chores. Failing that I resort to a very loud voice and threats to leave home. Should see them run, lol.
Emm as JPS said enjoy your days off.
Anyone Iv not mentioned hugs.0 -
Morning everyone. I got up early to be productive and have sat doodling about on here for ages! Must go and make a start soon. Work this morning then I wanted to think of something nice (and cheap) to do with the kids this afternoon for an hour or two. Would be good to go somewhere just the three of us as its our last proper day of the holidays.
DS2 has been complaining of stomach ache quite a bit over the holidays. Of course its probably nothing but I have this little voice in the back of my mind that says what if he has Crohns like his brother? DS2 is about average height for his age but very skinny. I know that its not impossible for siblings to both have this condition and I also know that DS2 is not always honest with me if he is feeling ill because he is scared of doctors and hospitals. I need to keep a close eye on this.
Ah well, off to get showered and dressed and log on to my work laptop!0 -
Morning everyone,
I am so glad it's Friday. Just doing my usual Friday things today - changing sheets and towels, putting stuff away, cleaning the buns and floors so I don't have to think about stuff over the weekend. Yesterday I dug out some old decorative stuff to put on the boocase so I spent ages with the metal polish cleaning up some old trophies and a tankard. They're half decoration, half bookends!
Have a good weekend.0 -
Hi Messies!
JPS - enjoy the pottering and take it easy till you`ve seen the doc again!
Sonastin - fair do`s to your OH!
Re Certain Laws of Physics...the chairs thing - it`s not just chairs, it`s flat surfaces in general! We have an open fire in LR, and a nursery fireguard, you wouldn`t believe the carp that gets put on it when the fire isn`t lit! I have tried taking the fireguard down in summer & stashing it in caravan of Doom, but then carp ends up being put on the hearth!
It has been a Mission for me in the last few months, keeping LR mantelpiece carp-free, and then LR windowsill, but I think now I`ve finally got through to everyone (including myself!) The sofa is the flat surface I`m currently working on, and it doesn`t get as piled up as it used to but it still attracts intermittent deposits of carp!
Messy Status Report-
Garden is increasingly jungly but now a good part of this jungle effect is the nasturtiums rambling all over the place!
It is also a plus that our new Littly dog and the cat can pretend they haven`t spotted each other and avoid direct eye contact! (Indoors, they also keep out of each others way, but now without either making little growly noises!)
Indoors -
DS & DGD`s rooms are BAD, but other areas are OK. Upstairs still reasonable since my binge before the boiler was fixed. LR & Kitchen also quite reasonable. Nowhere looks really pristine, but nothing drastically needs doing. I suppose it`ll all reach Critical Mass at the same time, probably when I`m in between shifts - then it`ll have to keep till the next day off!
Meals for next few days are roughly planned, and at last I now have a `provisional` rota (which looks fine to me, but they said I`m to holler if it`s too much!) for the next 4 weeks, so I can plan roughly around that.
The only desperate MUST DO is slap some colour on my hair, I`m looking like a badger again!
Have a lovely weekend all! x
(Drags self off to deal with `badger look`.....)0 -
Emm I can relate to the hair thing Iv white hair sprouting up everywhere.
Today I spent sorting through my dd clothes and ironing . The amount of clothing that I found with cat hairs on even though they were washed:o.
Ds made dinner for him and dd so only oh and I to be fed although oh as been ill all day and asleep.
Saturday I intend to do some more sorting out and hoovering the landings and stairs . I always feel that if I say it on here Ill be more motivated to do it.:D
Well take care everyone.0 -
Good morning folks.
Looking like a lovely day here so up early and one load in the washing machine already! I didn't have much choice really, the overflow from the wash basket was becoming a trip hazard. I've sorted out the next load and put it on the floor in front of the machine so it can go straight in when this load comes out
A lot of it is still the children's holidays clothes which either 1. Won't fit them next summer, 2. They won't like them next summer, or 3. If neither 1 or 2 apply they're unlikely to wear them again this year. Normally I'd just keep stuffing them back in the washing basket (there are things in the bottom that have been there soooo long) so the plan is to get them washed and dried then I'm going to fold them and either put them away or into the Cash 4 Clothes pile. I'm not going to bother ironing what we keep because by the time they next want to wear it it'll have been in and out of drawers/wardrobes that often it'll look like a screwed up old rag anyway. Now I've told you that's what I'm doing I'll have to!
Also going to try to make sure school uniform is all sorted ready for them going back on Tuesday (still need to buy some of it but I think I know where most of it is...)
JPS, yes I work in a primary school and love it (only part time as well so I really have NO excuse for my house being in the state it is!)
Hope the sun is shining for you too, I find it makes a big difference to my mood and how much I can do.
Have a good weekend x0 -
Morning Messies!
Well done Snookey & Mummybobble on the clothes sorting. I do think that is one of the most time consuming tasks in a household. Maybe that`s why we tend to keep putting it off - but then the longer you put it off the more obvious it becomes that certain garments are outgrown or disliked!
I`m planning my next sort-out for when the weather starts to change, as a lot of winter clothes are stashed out of the way in spare room of Doom at present.
Well, yesterday I did get round to slapping some colour on my head, and I also simmered a big lump of smoked gammon in applejuice, so there`s a few `quick` meals in that for the next few days to alternate with some defrosted chicken portions so that folks don`t get `hammed out`.
OH has suggested an afternoon at the pub, and it sounds like a good idea to me....
Have a nice afternoon all. x
Drags self away to find glad-rags....0 -
I hope you dont mind me joining in but my house is an absolute tip and it's mainly because of all the clutter.
I suffer from depression which gets worse because of all the mess but then I don't feel like sorting it out and it just gets worse
I really need to make an effort though, it's almost a year since I started to strip this room for decorating and I'm not even halfway through yet.Emm-in-a-pickle wrote: »Hi Messies!

That's the problem I have, if I ever win the lottery I'm going to have a house built with all domed surfaces so nobody can dump stuff and say they will move it later!14 Projects in 2014 - in memory of Soulie - 2/140 -
Hi Messies, we`re back home from the pub & moderately sober. OH had gone for a nap so the rest of the afternoon is my lobster.
Dibuzz - Welcome, you are already one of Us, glad you made it to join in here! The very THOUGHT of decorating brings me out in a cold sweat, then a nervous rash!
DO please have a read of Sonsatin`s post (post 10630) on previous page of this thread. (Sorry, can`t do the link thing)
It`s not just the Messiness, the Clutter, that adds to the depressive effect, it`s the beating ourself up about it, the feeling overwhelmed by it...
The only Defence is Attack - but SNEAKY ATTACK, taking Baby Steps, you sneak up on the clutter, just tackle a tiny corner or flat surface at a time, don`t set out to Change the World or even the whole room, just do a little bit where you can then see a bit of difference, progress. Then celebrate each minor advance that you`ve made, even if it`s just that the carp hasn`t returned by the next day.
Re the Domed surfaces, they don`t work! I have one called a log basket - DGD`s trainers, 3 squeaky dog-toys, and a pair of DS`s socks are nestling on it right now!0 -
DS has taken himself off to buy a storage unit for decluttering his room and the landing.
He appropriated half my laundry shelving on the landing for stuff that he didn't want in his room.
Stop press - he's back with a storage unit from £stretcher, reduced too, attaboy.
Meanwhile, I've attacked the ironing. I was extremely fortunate to be given a steam generator iron.
Best thing since sliced bread, no excuse for a big ironing pile now.
In my childminding days, the fireguard was a carp magnet too - I last used one about 20 years ago though!Erma Bombeck, American writer: "If I had my life to live over again... I would have burned the pink candle, sculptured like a rose, that melted in storage." Don't keep things 'for best' - that day never comes. Use them and enjoy them now.0
