Hi Lieuca you sound a really caring decent human being we could do with with more people like you in the world .
The council or social services may be able to help with funding for new flooring. Also is she in touch with the Blind society for talking books/newspapers. They also can help with recommendations for aids to make her life easier.0 -
Infrequent poster de-lurking here. My living space is not too bad although I'm blind as a bat so likely not the best to judge. I haven't had anyone step over the threshold since just after Christmas when mum popped round and I'd want to have a clear up before anyone did.
I can at least resolve to never got to bed with dirty dishes in the sink and give the bathroom a thorough clean every weekend. I used up the last of an apple-scented spray cleaner on Saturday and I found the fresh fragrance most pleasing.
There are bits of paperwork everywhere, some to be kept, some junk, which I want to keep on top of. I have a nasty habit of putting them to one side and just leaving them there.
I might have my brother round of an evening this week so there's some motivation to get on with it. I can empathise with those that say "Where do I start?" all too well and it's only me here!0 -
Grousescot welcome. I too had mounds of paperwork and ended up with a bin bag full after sorting through . Im still trying to keep on top of it by binning anything that comes through the door thats junk and only keeping essential letters.
A good tip is to have a plastic bag hanging on the front door so that junk can be dealt with as soon as it arrives.
Iv also found the three box methoud good,a,for keep, b,charity,c,throw.
As people have said its baby steps. Id also concentrate on one room at a time.
Good luck.0 -

Thanks Snookey, the bag on the front door is a great idea. I have had clear-outs before where I needed a whole bin bag to take all the junk paper so I'd rather not get to the stage again.0 -
Morning Messies!
Hi Grousescot, welcome back.
Catch up with you all tomorrow - it`s my first `long day` shift today!0 -
Well DD and DS have been back just over two days and have certainly added to the general state of untidiness (unpacking their suitcases on the living room floor didn't help, but I reckon two more loads for the washing machine and it's done :j). They're spending some time with their grandparents today so I'm going to try to finish getting organised for going back to school next week. Went shopping yesterday with DD for stationery (unfortunately she appears to have inherited my stationery obsession, between us we probably have more than WH Smith...).
I find it draining to feel that I am constantly fire fighting and only seem to have time to do what "has to be done today" instead of making any real progress so today I'm going to sort through some paperwork, most of which only needs filing or binning, in an attempt to clear some space in the "office". Might be more enthusiastic if it looks like I'm getting somewhere!
I'm also going to be kind to myself and meet two friends this afternoon for a cup of tea and a mahoooosive piece of cake0 -
Hi everyone,
I've painted a bookcase, stuck in in the living room, put books on it. That's it! I now have somewhere for a radio and a lamp so win win win.
Loads of bits and bobs to do today, nothing exciting just ironing, putting stuff away etc. HAve a good day.0 -

The problem that is draining isn't the fire fighting, its the expectation! Adjust your perspective on what needs to be done and you'll feel less drained, which will release more energy and you'll end up actually getting more done!
So, for the next 7 days, make a deliberate and conscious effort that all you are going to do each day is the "has to be done today jobs". And when they are done, take a deep breath and relax. No pressure, no worry, no need to then make a start on anything else. I promise that the world won't fall down around your ears! After you've got through the week, start adding extra little (and I mean LITTLE!) tasks on at the end e.g. the "has to be done today" jobs plus clearing the carp that has built up on the arm chair in the corner of the living room, or ditching the junk mail that has arrived this week (only this week mind - remember baby steps!), or one of the things that is on tomorrow's "has to be done" list so that you get ahead of yourself.
It is oh so easy to expend so much mental energy beating yourself up over what you haven't got done that you've no energy left to do any of it. The best thing you can do is learn not to put the extra pressure on yourself. Be realistic about what is achievable and you'll find so much more can be achieved :T0 -

Thanks for your kind words Snookey.
Achievements today:
1.Cleared out rear extension, piles of stuff now bagged up for dump.
2.Took down blinds eaten by mice also heading for the dump.
Smell now a bit better, other neighbours have persuaded her to stop giving the cat cream! Rats seem also to be not around too.
Later will attack with my new yard brush.0
