Lieucu, I admire you. My Mum and another neighbour found out that an old chap living down their street was really struggling with his housework. Mum used to bring his sheets home to wash and Dad got really annoyed about it. Maybe its something blokes just dont understand.

Mummybobble, I think all of us on here can relate to what you say. I went through a stage where I thought it was all just too much so there was no point in starting. Whereas if you just keep chipping away at it you will get there, eventually. Good luck - and celebrate what you do achieve, no matter how small.

Been a busy day at work so I havent done much more than that. Got a quote for reskimming the living room ceiling which is affordable so we may actually have a room that looks half decent in a few months!

Going to get an early night, not been sleeping very well lately for some reason. Oh and I want to try and get DS2 into bed at a sensible time tonight.

Hi messies, welcome to newbies, welcome back to lurkers and returners!

I have cleaned the main bedroom instead of starting the spare room of doom - it was a matter of recognising my limitations really. Since the tablets were finished on Sunday, I've noticed a dramatic return to fatigue and general malaise.

For the few days I was taking the tablets, I felt as though I could climb Everest. I got loads done and enjoyed just moving around. I'm astonished at the difference, my normal mode (now returning) is feeling as though my limbs are made of lead.

It's so dramatic that I suspect I've had a condition I didn't know about for a number of years now - either asthma or something else which limits breath and energy. I think the prime suspect is asthma but will see what the Dr thinks - seeing her again on Mon after school. I thought it was just because I'm overweight, I'm a tubby old thing.

Well, in other news, I did masses of washing yesterday in between bedroom cleaning (the dust under the bed was a year old, so I had to keep leaving the room for fresh air!). At the end of the day, I got the last load off the line and promptly tripped over the washing prop.

Now as I said, I'm no Twiggy, so I fell very heavily on one knee and my hands, but in the process somehow managed to break the prop in half (it was already a bit broken, one of those with a plastic connector that had perished and been mended with aluminium tape) and goodness knows how but it bashed me on the toe, shoulder AND face! I was really jarred and sprawled on the grass gasping and feeling very sorry for myself for a good couple of minutes, in which time I also enjoyed a view of some lovely cloud formations.

I don't think my knee is badly hurt, but it did swell up and get quite hot. It's gone down a bit already, and there's not much of a bruise so I think it's ok. The worst thing is the general jarring - I hurt all over!

I may yet get to do a bit on the spare room of doom, but my plans for the next few days include lots of tea drinking and being lazy so it might not happen.

One thing I have learned this summer: a very small job done is better than nothing. I honestly thought it wasn't worth doing little things, but I could do nothing else but very small things while I was ill, and found it makes quite a big psychological difference so I will keep doing little things as I go. Don't worry, I'm not ready for flylady yet (more like crawling-along-very-slowly-lady) :rotfl:

Ok that's enough rambling, I need some tea now. Emm, the new doggie sounds lovely!

Hope all messies are well, take care of yourselves!

    I've been Money Tipped!
Thanks for your kind words, Yorkshirelass. The encouragement of the forum is keeping me going, its a complicated situation.

I took a carload of rubbish to the tip, and then tackled the hard floors, the anti slip in the bathroom had destroyed a soft mop. I scrubbed all the floors with a yard brush and got through 5 buckets of flash and dettol, then mopped up the water.

I dont really know why but the smell seems to be 'turning' and it all seems much better although it is still in all the curtains and soft fabrics.

I plan to have another go at the carpet with dettol in the tank as it is crucial to try and kill the bacteria.

Meanwhile husband is getting very fed up with it all, and am still trying to work as well. (fortunately a home worker and self employed)

Lleucu, I meant to say well done you for helping your neighbour, you're very kind. And welcome back to the thread!

Edit: I'm very fond of Savlon for disinfecting, it's pretty cheap in FB at the moment, I've bought about a year's supply!

  • Hi Messies!
Well, I survived my `long day`, now have a few days off to sort of recover and catch up with things at home.
Mummybobble - hope you enjoy the tea & cake session, and take heed of Sonastin`s advice!
Sonastin, for posts like yours there should be a `double thankyou` button. AS YL says, we all know that `firefighting` feeling, and it isn`t helpful to sink under it!

Lleucu, it sounds like you`ve done wonders there. It`s great that the old lady has good neighbours like you, and that she lets the district nurses in too. As for your hubby - tell him HE will get old one day and might be glad of good neighbours!

JPS - ((HUGS)) Are you sure you should be starting back to work? Couldn`t you see the doctor sooner? Not just about the knee & your fall, but really about the rapid return of the leaden limbs feeling. You may have needed a slightly longer course of the medication, or a small maintenance dose - do PLEASE get it checked out sooner rather than later, please.
    I really like Savlon too.

I`m having a lazy day. Now for a lazy evening....
  • Thank you all for your kind words and support.

Sonastin, I do have a tendency to set targets way too high, then see myself as a failure when I don't achieve them (my therapist says so... she's getting tired of hearing about it!) so I like the idea of having a few days where, provided I've done what needs to be done that day, I've actually done enough. How did you know about the chair in the corner of the living room full of carp? (Actually two chairs  )

Emm, tea and cake was lovely. What was planned as an hour in the local coffee shop turned into three, sitting outside in the sunshine. I did very little that was obviously productive but had a great time catching up with friends  Often it's much too easy to get bogged down with the problems and not appreciate how much good being kind to your self can do.

Planning to enjoy what's left of the summer holidays and get back on track when normal service resumes next week. I'm back in school on Monday, DD and DS on Tuesday. Although there are actually less hours in the day available to get things done, I always seem to be able to focus better when we have routine. I really must get round to sewing the school badge on to DD's new blazer (had the badge for weeks, just need to buy the blazer - that should probably on my list of things I need to do tomorrow!).

Thank you all again :-) x

OH had a problem with some boat parts yesterday and had to spend the afternoon at home waiting for the customer service/tech support people to phone him back and tell him how they were going to solve the problem. Lucky for me because he cured his boredom by...
    vacuuming throughout
    cleaning the living room
hanging out and later bringing in the laundry
sorting out the room that ought to be the study but is in actual fact his storeroom/dumping ground!

So my home is slightly less of a mess now and there is even the possibility of inviting a friend I haven't seen for a while to come to stay, now that I can find the spare bed in the study again! Unfortunately OH is still showing no sign of interacting with the dishwasher or dirty pots, nor cleaning the bathroom. But if those are the only jobs left for me to do, I can live with that.

Lleucu - you are an angel for doing what you're doing and if your husband has a problem with it, tough. Your neighbour needs you more than him just now and he's a grown up, he can learn to live with it.

JPS - as Emm says, get yourself to the docs again and keep the appointment again. I'm guessing that you will know you know how much better you can feel with treatment!

Emm - sounds like your properly back in the swing of things now. Bet all that time off recuperating seems like a lifetime ago?

Alec - if you run out of bits and bobs to do, come on over here... I've got plenty of bits and bobs that could keep you busy!

How did you know about the chair in the corner of the living room full of carp? (Actually two chairs  )

As far as I am aware, the laws of physics dictate that if there are more chairs in a room than people who use the room regularly, there must be carp on the chair. You mentioned that the kids were away. I figured you usually have at least 3 chairs but at the moment, you'll have 2 with carp on there :rotfl:But remember the rules only need you to deal with the carp on ONE of them ;)

Thanks Emm, and Sonastin - I promise I will keep that appointment. Monday won't be difficult as the kids aren't in, it's a training day, then I have Tuesday off and back (with kids) on Weds.

I feel better than I did before we broke up, and today I walked through town and window-shopped while my car got new tyres. I was able to walk much better than for quite some time, way before I got bronchitis, so I think the inhaler must be helping but I guess I will need some investigation into lung function.

The wheezing is increasing slightly each day so I am taking this very seriously and I do really appreciate all your support on here.

Sonastin you are so right about the chair law. And it applies to any flat surface that can support any items at all in my house too!

Mummybobble, you're another person who works in school I take it? Are you primary or secondary? I love my work in secondary.

Emm I hope you enjoy your well-earned days off now! The weather forecast doesn't look too good here for the weekend, but I'm still enjoying pottering round the garden and poking things. Sod the housework

Well, having said that, I might try and do little jobs, being a new convert to baby steps instead of major blitzing.

Keep well all, have a lovely time whatever you're doing!

  • Heehee Sonastin, between the three of us we have two chairs, two sofas and a footstool, no wonder there's room for so much carp to be dumped! Tomorrow I will deal with the one that has the most stuff on it that I can chuck straight in the bin, the one with the ironing piles on it scares me  (or perhaps I could just declutter the two sofas by sending the children out of the house, that would also involve them putting on shoes so the hall would look tidier too and has the added bonus of being able to chuck stuff in the bin without them knowing!).

I believe another law of physics says that carp expands to fill the available space regardless of the number of people occupying that space. I think we need to move into a caravan, or maybe even a tent!)
