  • JPS, please DO see GP - you really aren`t `wasting his time` - doctors spend as much time asking patients `where have you been till now?` as they do telling them to stay home and keep taking their meds/advice. Honestly.
Water still off, coping fine - just so glad its only OH & me here!

I will Emm, I'll make an appointment tomorrow and promise to keep it even if I feel better.

Glad you're managing without running water - doesn't something like that make you grateful for the convenience when you have it! Thinking about it, I must lay in some bottled water - I have loads of sparkling water as it's what I drink but no still water.

Ever since I prepped for power failure, we've not had one! Inevitably, my little propane stove has been buried in the cupboard of doom. Must dig it out!

  • JPS, glad you`ve decided to see doc. Re the water thing, besides buying a few big bottles we`ve also been filling up various receptacles with help of good neighbours! My next door`s usually come to me as they tend to have more disasters than we do - and say they are now glad to be able to reciprocate. Hey Ho - tis a hard life but it`s Regular!!

Hi all, hello FW, nice to see you around. Emms glad to hear your return to work went well and its nice to know your colleagues welcomed you back with a hug. Its so lucky the boiler leaked when you were at home, that could have done some major damage if it had happened while you were out.

Well we have just had a loverly week away in sunny Norfolk. I feel very rested and relaxed. DS1 doesnt always cope well with holidays and can be very trying but he was brilliant - apart from one small incident when we lost him but thats another story!

All the camping stuff has been cleaned and put away - the washing machine has been going non-stop all day and the house is reasonably tidy. I have to work tomorrow so will have to try and fit the ironing in somewhere and I need some food shopping but may get it delivered.

Hugs to everyone else. Off to curl up with my book for a bit I think, its so dark and cold out tonight, I am definitely not ready for the nice weather to change just yet.

Yikes Emm, doesn't sound like fun.

I'm back from my not-holiday. It was fantastic especially as I had a proper break this time. DH cleaned out the buns, did the washing up and kept the floors swept for the whole 10 days which was amazing as they're the things I really didn't want to have to do.

Weirdly we learned a lot about our general day to day life so now I'm back, refreshed and ready to go. Like YL my washing machine has been on non-stop this morning. I need to do some dusting, the floors, bits in the bathroom, have a general tidy round and find a home for all the bits and bobs I bought when we were out and about. They're mainly books so not too difficult to find somewhere for everything.

Going to have a brew and a really good catch up with all the goings on here and on my favourite blogs. Have a good week everyone.
  • Morning Messies!

YL - Glad your holiday went well, and sounds like you`ve done wonders getting all the kit cleaned and put away.

Alec E - I`m glad your `not-holiday` was a proper break for you - proves that it`s possible without the faff and expense of going away from home for a break!

Well , my boiler/water `disaster` may have put paid to any laundry plans I had - but I`ve really made a HUGE effort tidying/Henrying etc. upstairs. It does help having a deadline, and trying to look at things from a stranger`s view. (Boilerman). My bedroom looks so much better, and the biggest thing was just putting stuff away, though I admit some clutter has merely been stashed out of sight but even spare room of Doom looks better now!
I did have a panic moment though - Henry coughed and went quiet....first thought was the electricity at fault - I came downstairs, looked at the fusebox thing, no switches were down, and other electrics working ok. So I really thought Henry had died. I went back upstairs and was about to unplug him and wind in the wire when I saw the plug had already come partly out!!! I was so relieved I could have cried!

I`m not doing much this morning, just had a quick tidy downstairs and about to start getting ready for work. Tomorrow we`ll know more - even if the boiler is dead, at least they`ll be able to isolate it or whatever, and we should be able to have running water again, albeit only cold! At least I`ll be able to use shower and WM, and there`s always the dear old kettle! And it will feel like luxury to flush loos without carrying buckets!!!
Have a good day all. x

Henry has a habit of doing that :)

More laundry for me today, but it's nearly all done. Lots of other bits and bobs too. Being back to normality is exhausting. Have a good day everyone.
  • Hi Messies!
My poorly boiler is all better, we have running water (hot as well!) and flushing loos! I am SO relieved that I feel all shaky!
The mender man from Worcester came on time (good start!) and he reminded me of an ex-colleague, a male staff nurse we sadly lost to promotion! It wasn`t just looks, it was the quiet air of efficiency and confidence, sort of `bedside manner`. No sharp intake of breath or predictions of Doom.It took about an hour and a half, and it`s the company`s fixed rate guaranteed repair - if only we`d known about this before...

I`m really in `counting my Blessings` mode all round.
I had a lovely late shift yesterday, and also had a lovely welcome back from our senior manager, very supportive and caring. I have a clean tidy-ish bedroom, and am about to put WM on - not a backlog really as there`s only me & OH here this week.
Early shift tomorrow, and apart from getting up at 6am I`m looking forward to it.
    Hope everyone`s having a good day. x

OH tells me that Henry is virtually indestructible - as long as you know what you're doing. He has a work-Henry who has been used to vacuum up all manner of nasties - brick dust, fibreglass bits, wood shavings, etc. He thought he'd killed him once but was able to fix it by re-winding the motor. He's also had the cough/die moment but Henry's cable came loose inside his head. I believe at some point in the past he has also resurrected another Henry he found in a skip which had had the same problem - pop his head off, reconnect the cable and hey presto, new Henry.

As for me? I never use a vacuum often enough to worry about wearing it out. Seizing up is probably a more realistic threat!
  • OK, deep breath, here goes.

My home is beyond a mess... After a long time struggling with depression I had a huge meltdown earlier this year which, while not a good thing in itself, forced me to accept that I couldn't go on with things the way they were. Five months of meds and 18 weeks into therapy are helping and I can now recognise that the state of the house reflects my state of mind over the last few years. Blimey, no wonder it's a mess!!!

Then there's the debt, racked up over ten years as a single parent, spending money I didn't have to maintain a lifestyle for my children that I couldn't afford (that's a story for another day, though it does so some way to explaining why my house is full of so much stuff!).

Time to get a grip I think, and reading through the posts on here has helped me realise I am not alone in struggling to keep on top of it all. My children are clean, clothed and fed, we enjoy spending time together (DD15, DS12) so I know I am doing something right, it's just the rest of it that's pants!

So Plan A: Children are away with their dad this week until Sunday so I am going to sort out a Cash 4 Clothes collection (vast quantity of clothes that no longer fit, shoes, books and various other items) which will hopefully give me enough cash to be able to take them out for food (they both do a lot of sport and food seems to be their second favourite thing, they love it when we sit down together to eat). So, while not reducing the debt, clearing some stuff out and not increasing the debt either :-)

Sorry to blather on but I hope that saying I'm going to do something will make me do it!

By the way, what's all this stuff about hoovering? How often are you supposed to do that then? :-) x
