    Hi Messies!
My answer to the bin-bag thing is that when I get one full it goes in the boot and AWAY asap to the skip- before I change my mind about whether the contents have to go!

Today I have done nothing but a quick kitchen tidy this am.
It`s dull & wet, completely uninspiring, so I`ve had a bit of a `slob-out` - tea & toast & dozing on sofa while listening to R4Extra stuff on i-player.
Didn`t do much yesterday apart from a curry (using some chilli`s off my plant on windowsill! And it`s flowering again too!) and a bit of hedge-cutting where hedge meets front gate and makes it hard to fasten gate shut. Looks like sort of abstract topiary, and I have a blister from the pruning tool, but gate fastens easily now.
I`ve thawed a YS duck for tonight, I`d better go & bother it into oven soon.
DGD is back with us tomorrow, that will liven the place up a bit, I`ve missed her while she`s been at the other gran`s.

JPS, the hoovering will keep, steady on there!
Scaredy, good to hear from you again.
Buffy, pondering on the sofa is good.
Alec E - you`ve been getting stuff done, so you can slob-out next, ok?
Have a nice evening all! x

i have packed away a few more clothes this morning, so the clothes mountain is gradually diminishing. i need to get ruthless and find some to chuck or take to the clothing bank.

  • Hi Messies!

I do hope you`re all well (or in JPS`s case, better) & not wilting. I have very little de-messying to report, the very merest basics only - but I have been experimenting a bit with the cooking. Mad, that while I feel it`s to hot to bother with all sorts of stuff I still feel I want curry!! Last night I even did curried potato to go with defrosted salmon & salad!

I`m getting a twinge of sciatica and sitting isn`t good, but standing & pottering in kitchen is comfy enough, so I am going to Commit Pie (chicken/leek/celery that I`ve been faffing with already) then let it go cold for supper. DGD (vegetarian) says she`s too hot to eat, but is constantly snacking on cold noodles, cheese, and grapes!
Have a good weekend all. x

    Afternoon Messies.

Jps, so sorry to hear that you've been really poorly. Rotten to be ill in the holidays, but I hope you mend very quickly! As others have said (and you've found it wasn't a good idea, anyway), don't be tempted to do too much too soon.

Buffy, try to enjoy the holidays, won't you, and not just de-messying, cos that's just more work!

Emms, I think that your OH is probably right about the amount you do. You tend to be a bit prone to saying you don't do much, then make a long list of all the 'little' bits you do. ;)

Hi Scaredy, I'm not sure we're allowed to put out more than one bin bag, but it's so long since we've need to, that I really don't know.

    And hello Alec E!

Despite the warm weather, I've actually got quite a lot of de-messying done recently - just didn't get in here to say so. The bathroom's being cleaned regularly, and I've started giving the kitchen a good clean. The latter really needs steps to do the wall and ceiling above the cooker. I'm taking 6 weeks off some of my commitments, but I'm in the process (and almost finished) of preparing all the materials I'll need for the next craft group meeting in September, then all will be put away until then. The gardening is pretty well done as much as we can, considering how solid the clay soil is, despite quite a lot of rain on and off over the last week. Still warm and sticky, too.

Hope that sciatica calms down Emms, I've only had it a couple of times but it was awful enough.

Thanks Bearcub, Well done on your de-messification! Yep it is astonishing how little I can do. I have a big birthday for a close family member tomorrow, and am the only one that can sort out some things to make her feel very special, so I had to go out for real today.

Oh my goodness... driving was no problem, but walking around I thought I was going to collapse. Luckily I was in town centres and a big garden centre so plenty of sitting down opportunities. I also took a walking pole and that helped a bit. I had a really nice pot of tea in the garden centre

I don't often drink tea, but when I'm ill/after antibiotics I find my tastes change quite a lot, and I do a switch from coffee to tea. So I bought myself a little present today too, a nice small stainless steel teapot, some darjeeling and a half price cup and saucer :)

The coughing is quite a lot better now, but I don't think the weakness has improved at all. I've had pneumonia in the past and honestly don't remember being this weak for so long, I think it was just a few days then.

Anyhow enough moaning... it was a beautiful day, I hope tomorrow is as nice for the family birthday - she deserves a lovely day. Can't wait for her to open her pressies :D

    Morning everyone

Hugs to you too Buffy, lovely to hear you sounding so chirpy, wonder if thats something to do with being on hols eh? You enjoy the time off girl, you deserve it.

Emms, we had stew and dumplings last week at OHs suggestion and it was lovely. It was actually really nice to have a meat and two veg sort of meal for a change!

Jps, enjoy the family birthday and take it easy, its awful for you to be ill this time of year, hope you feel a bit stronger soon.

Hi to Alec, Bearcub and others. I am on a clothes clearing mission this weekend. I have lost a bit of weight over the last 6 months, not a huge amount but I have a lot of clothes that dont fit me so I am going to treat myself to some new things and have a bit of an ebay session.

Have a good weekend all x

So sorry, YL - I totally missed you out of my last greeting. How's the job going, or have you yet to start?

Thanks YL, and hey well done on the weight loss. I lost a little bit being ill but I know as soon as my appetite returns I'll be tempted to overeat again.

Anyhoo, I do believe I've turned a corner now... it was a struggle to be out at the family birthday but she had a lovely day and really loved her presents. It made me feel very warm and fuzzy :)

I came home and went straight to bed, slept for an hour and a half, and feel quite a lot better now. I am still coughing but I can breathe much better now and I think there's a noticeable improvement in the weakness tonight too.

The weather forecast isn't too grand for the next few days, cooler with showers. So I may have to keep my word and actually do something about this bomb site of a house! Hoovering would be a good start, I'm surprised mice haven't moved in to the kitchen, as I haven't been able to sweep up crumbs etc. for a couple of weeks!

  • Hi Messies!
JPS, I`m so glad the birthday went well. I`m glad too that the weakness you`re experiencing seems a bit better - feeling like that when you`re out on a shopping mission is quite scarey. Do NOT be temped to start doing too much, it really isn`t worth depleting your energy reserves while they are still so low & fragile. Hoovering may not seem particularly energetic when you feel `normal`, but when you`re weakened you find it`s quite a strenuous activity, more than you`d expect.
I left Henry well alone too while I had the sciatic twinges (gone now after dosing myself with brufen & keeping gently on the move to nip it in the bud!)

YL - well done on the weight loss, I`m jealous!! (I`d expected I might lose some after all the rubbish that was removed, but I am still portly...hrumph!)

Bearcub, sounds like you`ve been keeping pretty busy there -
even with taking time off from some stuff, keeping up with the garden is Something Else! Mine has gone all feral again, you`d never think it had seen a strimmer out there! But the Nasturtiums, Lavender, Marigolds are going berserk too, and it`s still heaving with bees & butterflies. OH is refilling the birdfeeders whenever they get low, and we`re getting all sorts out there. Latest stars are a pair of wood pigeons who come & `dine` together on the sunflower seed feeder and start lovingly sharing turns then end up squabbling! And loads of young greenfinches, sparrows bathing in an old dish on the decking, and a jay has been here several times this weekend too.
Weather is still sticky but cooler & duller that of late.
    Have a nice evening all.x

Hi Bearcub - new job starts 3 September, which will be 7 weeks after the interview so it all feels a bit unreal. I want to get on with it now.

As for weight loss, well it will be interesting to see what happens when I am spending a good part of my day sitting behind a computer screen. Maybe I had better not get rid of all the bigger clothes yet!

Its raining here, which is a real novelty after all the hot dry weather. Tomorrow looks a bit of a wash out but I have to work anyway (in my current part time job just to confuse things!). Luckily I got all the washing up to date yesterday.

The kids need a stern word about tidying their bedrooms. They can do that tomorrow as we are having a day at home. Going away next weekend so I want to try and get everything done without getting too stressed about it.
