OH decided that yesterday was a day for de-messying the garden. All in all, I reckon we relocated over 2 tonnes of rubble, soil and slate chippings and also potted on a fair few plants that we're bringing on until we've cleared enough garden to put them in. We were struggling for large pots and everything was getting pot bound and OH refused to pay for pots. We got to the point of arguing over whether it was better value to buy £1 buckets and drill holes in the bottom or retire some of the past-their-best flexi tubs and invest in new ones (which cost more but we'll be needing them soon enough anyway. Then OH had a genius idea - the small blue ikea bags for 20p each are pretty much the size that we need so with a few drainage holes snipped in the bottom, we've got the ideal temporary plant pot! It helped that I had a meeting in Warrington not far from ikea so I could pop in on my way home without too much petrol money. Very proud of myself for only going in through the exit and straight to the bags at the checkout and not getting tempted from all the other stuff in the store too!

So anyway, the cultivated bit of garden looks almost finished, the building site bit of garden looks a whole lot tidier and the house is a complete and utter tip! Laundry is once again drying all over the house - didn't hang it out because it would be in the way but glad I didn't because when the rain came, it really came down! I think we're going to spend the rest of the week looking out of the window at the tidy garden and keeping our backs to the messy house!

JPS - hope you start to feel better soon. Make sure you properly take it easy. Don't be tempted to try too hard too soon. If Emm can manage to behave herself while she's been laid up, I'm sure you can too!

Sonastin, I love the Ikea bag idea. I`ve got a `salad bag` (Aldi) like a big jute shopping bag sans handles that`s similar and doing a great job as it was only a couple of quid!
As for me behaving myself....OH had a chuckle at that, he still tells people I`m hyperactive!

Sonastin I also use the strong bags from tesco etc. as potato growing bags, much cheaper than the purpose made ones even in the pound shops and the handles are useful for moving them around as well! Well done on the garden de-messying!

I managed to get a few new potatoes out of one bag yesterday by putting it on the wheelbarrow, pushing it a few feet to a garden table and sitting down while rummaging about for spuds! It worked quite well and although my appetite is still a bit depressed, I really enjoyed them.

The coughing has got much easier since yesterday - I still have very shallow breathing and have to take the stairs in three stages, but I slept much better last night.

I got very stir crazy today and decided to try a trip to the shops - I felt as though I was walking underwater, it was very strange. I'm so weak. I made it around HB by leaning on a trolly! I really enjoyed driving though, if it wasn't for coughing fits I would go on a nice long drive to somewhere pretty. Maybe in a few days!

    Hi all

Jps, poor you. I had glandular fever a few years ago and remember that drained, weak feeling. Its horrible, just take it easy.

Well done on the gardening Sonastin. I have been really busy for the last few days and got an emergency call to go and help out with some voluntary work this morning which I could have really done without. Never mind.

DS2 is constantly getting invited out all over the place and we had some of his friends over to camp in the garden last week. Poor DS1 is feeling very left out, not going to school he doesnt have many friends and this causes friction between him and DS2. I try to do my best to keep DS1 busy and keep the peace between them but its not easy! They are playing footie happily in the garden at the moment so I am making the most of the peace and quiet.

The downstairs of the house is reasonably clean and tidy but upstairs is another story! Need to make an effort sometime this week to tackle our bedroom. Oh and I am ignoring the weeds in the garden for now.

    hello girls xxx

am on holiday! and work is over! Weirdly tired. Have put the new hutch up and ordered a fish pond - it is coming Friday! Whilst I was AWOL from the thread, I got a gardener- he did a fantastic job and I may call him back. However the weeds are already making a comeback :(

My room is more tidy but have had to bring home loads from work so it is a mess in parts!

JPS, I am not liking this being ill business, please take it easy :( xxxx

    And Emms you doing ok?

Will now catch up on the rest of the thread (Sonastin - wicked idea on the bags :) )

    xx

Buffy - at last!! I bet that last week was the longest one of the whole term! A bit of delegating in the garden is well worth paying for if you find the right sort. Sometimes one person can do in a few hours what would take you weeks to try to do yourself ! I`m lucky having Strimmer Man to call on now & then for the big jobs, especially as my menfolk have no input in the garden at all. But the Weeds....they always come back!

JPS, sleeping better will help. I know that `leaning on the shopping trolley` thing too! It seems like ages ago now, and even when I felt very carp before my op the actual driving bit was fine - they didn`t suggest not to until AFTER surgery! I think when you`re in the driving seat it`s quite a good posture, and generally not a lot of physical effort involved.

YL, it`s a different social dynamic when kids are on long school holidays, even if it`s a case of 2 kids at different schools with different sets of mates coming to play etc., like my next door`s - in their case it`s the younger one who seems to be wailing `left out` the most, and the friction there is very audible! If you are managing to keep the peace and keep them occupied that is far more important than weeding and cleaning IMHO. You may continue to ignore the weeds and the messy upstairses on the grounds that one has to prioritise, right?

well, since my last post, many many many pages back (don't bother looking, it wasn't very interesting!) i have been filling some of the black bags with rubbish and finally stored soem clothes which i no longer can wear do to weight gain.

does anyone else wait until dark to take out the black bags to the wheelie bin if you've got more than 1?

Morning all, hope you're all ok.

I haven't been doing anything huge but I've been making the effort to just get things done for the past week or so and it's not too bad. I have been doing a little bit of painting, I've done some bookshelves and the window frame in the spare room and a few bits of touch up. Just finished the 30 day squat challenge and am feeling the benefit of that (not that it's anything to do with the house) and generally just doing bits and bobs.

I'm having a big push for the next week as DH has a week off work after that and we'll be out and about on our not-holiday *yay*. Have a good day.

Hi messies, thanks for all the good wishes and support.

    Buffy, hooray! :j

I'm still very weak and having wee-inducing coughing fits :o, but sleeping much better. It really sucks to have lost two weeks of the holidays - to be fair the first week would normally have been shut down time anyway, but this last week I've really been frustrated.

I finished my antibiotics yesterday, and am going to take a multivit with iron every day for a bit now to see if that helps.

It's cool and rainy today and I wish I could do the hoovering. Never thought I'd be saying that!

  • Scaredy! hello xx

We now have a fenced off bit in the garden and spare black bags go there till they can fit in the wheelie bin.

I have cleaned the bathroom, stirred up some dreadful period pains tho and am now on the sofa pondering wardrobes and clothes and the like.

    hope all is going well

    xx
