    Hello Messies Old and New,

I have two weeks off and am SO excited cos I have virtually nothing else planned aside from demessying!

Yes, I know that sounds like sarcasm but it really isn't!

currently I am recovering from a migraine and am away tonight but from Sunday I will be on one!

These two weeks are a good opportunity for me.

I MUST use them. I have had enough.

    Love to you all xxx
    Nevertheless she persisted.
  • Hi Messies.
Bearcub, well done on the church banner and the bargain box.
Scaredy cat - sounds like some action is imminent there...
Mishmash - 6 kids, 2 dogs...and you ask where the grott comes from??! Enjoy your weekend.
Buffy - you sound full of beans, no distractions...nice!

    Messy Status Report.
Kitchen not bad, last night`s turkey leg effort was yummy, remains tonight with steamed new pots and cauli, so not much to do. However....DGD is going to make herself a pizza....
LR still ok after yesterday`s clean-up.
Wooly rugs dried overnight and put away in caravan of Doom.
Sunny here, snow melting everywhere but still piles of it on pavements/in gardens - plus melting stuff siding off roofs (a car wrecked by this not far from here!) bins not emptied yet, and evidence of a few daffs that may have survived...
Drags self away to assist DGD making pizza....

Hello, scaredy cat - that's what we used to call our old feline, who hated the Great Outdoors. Go on, I dare you to use the bags etc! Lovely that you're a real friend of Buffy's. I have a daughter that posts on other parts of OS, but we rarely talk to each other on MSE.

Buffy, take a deep breath, and start. I suspect that, once you get going, you'll achieve more than you imagine. It's getting started that's often the problem, I find. I hope your migraine's fading now, Horrible things - used to get them a lot when I was younger.

Been a busy day today, but very little to do with de-messing. We've now packed away the bedding in the new box, although we had a small problem getting the box into the loft for a couple of minutes, until I realised all OH had to do was turn it 90 degrees. <rolls eyes> I'm at the monthly table top sale tomorrow, then out with a friend - hopefully shopping for a cheapish pair of jods. One pair I have have been repaired so many times, but the back just keeps laddering.
  • This really won't do anymore. I'm so tired of this, coathanger in the middle of the landing ? Why ? Bus ticket on bathroom window sill ? Draining board overflowing with stuff dishwasher hates, recycling box got blown away in wind a few weeks ago so utility room has bags of tins and plastics to be recycled, dear me this is not a good look.

I popped in here around September last year, there has been no impovement whatsoever !

    Help!

Hello, DC, and welcome back. Help? Well, when it comes to it, it's really only you who can do anything about it, BUT do try (hard though it is) not to look at the whole Great Mess. Break it down into tiny bits. That coat hanger? Put it away where it belongs or, if it's not wanted, let if join the other unwanteds in the utility room. Throw the bus ticket away. On Tuesday, when the council offices re-open, call and ask for another bin.

Then, maybe the dishwasher? If it's full of clean stuff, put it away. If dirty, switch it on, wash contents, put contents away. Then, when that's done, you can clear more stuff off the draining board. Then, maybe take a very short break (piece of choc as a reward, possibly?), take a look at what needs doing, and start small. BABY STEPS! It's starting that's important. If it helps, come back in here, and tell us what you've done, and what you are about to do, then DO IT!
  • Happy Easter Messies, Fly-Messies and lurking Messies!
Different Corner, welcome back! Lots of random stuff where it shouldn`t be here too. The council should give you another recycling box, just don`t mention `replacement` or they might charge for it, but you can request more than one - my DD has 3! Not that ours have been emptied yet, bins and recycling still waiting because of the snow/backlog of collections/Easter holidays.....
I`ve been quite good keeping sink & draining board clear lately. BUT...
Corner of draining board nearest cooker is home to one of those little racks where small panlids are stacked, and the windowsill behind this has got into a terrible state. Just th at `unseen` bit. Today I have dealt with it, and the utensil jars & their contents, all emptied out, washed, sorted. The panlids were all greasy from splashes, and are hardly ever used, so I`ve kept one out and put the others in the caravan of Doom, along with the rack they were kept on. Small de-clutter, but I feel that just one little corner sorted makes the whole kitchen look better.(The reality is, I now look at this bit and don`t look at the other stuff!)
Also, I`ve hand-washed my comfy old slippers, and the fluffy linings out of my `crocs`. Little pottering jobs that I`ve put off for ages, but I`m so pleased now they`re done!
    Bright sunshine, snow melting fast....lovely!

someone posted this link on the Hoarding thread - http://www.thetoothbrushprinciple.com/

i did the quiz and this is what it said -

What’s your clutter personality? Take the quiz and find out.

You are afraid to put anything away in case you forget about it
You have an 'if I see it, I'll remember to do it' system. Your cupboards and attic may actually have very little in them. You are afraid to put things away, in case they will be swallowed forever by the God of cupboards! And you feel tired and overwhelmed a lot of the time

Your system is overloading your mind and is really inefficient. You're tired and procrastinate because you are constantly being bombarded with visual information about what needs doing. Basically you have set your house up so that it will nag you! You really need the toothbrush principle

and i think it's sort of hit the nail on the head.. :o

Hi all, have had a really nice day at my parents. Fed and watered all day which was lovely. House is looking OKish. Have been trying to solve the problem of all the shoes in the utility room then I remembered the small storage chest full of toys no-one plays with in the lounge. Emptied this, moved into utility room and filled with shoes. Job done in less than an hour! One of those things that is blindingly obvious but takes me ages to get around to dealing with.

Different corner. Tackle one job at a time. Maybe make a list of small jobs and tick them off. Completely finish one job before you start another. See, I am good at giving advice! What do they say about practicing what you preach? But I do know that baby steps gets the job done eventually.

Going out for the day tomorrow then I am working Tuesday and Wednesday, hopefully the kids will just amuse themselves while I am working from home!

Thanks Scaredy_Cat. The Toothbrush Principle link didn't work for me, but I did succeed with it via Google.
    Hopefully this link works.
