My home is a mess

Hi Messies.
Mcculloch, if the Queen herself gave me an iron it wouldn`t convince me to take up ironing again!! Trying out stuff for Amazon sounds cool though, other than ironing.
Molly, I like the old-fashioned cotton mops, but only the ones that unscrew and go in the washing machine.
No De-Messying.
Snow still deep here and still falling.
I`ve pickled a batch of eggs, and thrown a chicken in the oven. Otherwise not much doing, just a quiet lazy day. Even next door`s kids have got fed up of the snow and are staying indoors! Easter Holidays indeed.0 -

Poor chicken! :rotfl: :rotfl:
Not much demessying here again. Just tackling odd jobs really.
Buns need cleaning again this afternoon to keep them smelling fresh, lol. Put 2 loads of laundry in this morning and so laundry bin is empty. Ironing is going down too which is nice.
Just a lazy day really otherwise, although I have to clean up a few things in a couple of the rooms, do dishes and so on.
Have to hunt out the wires for and connect up the Wii Fit later - I'm off work for three weeks and will not be getting much exercise if the weather stays like this!!
White Easter anyone?!?!0 -
For anyone who quite likes folk music, Irish legend Christy Moore's Easter Snow, a tribute to the equally legendary uillean pipe musician Seamus Ennis.Erma Bombeck, American writer: "If I had my life to live over again... I would have burned the pink candle, sculptured like a rose, that melted in storage." Don't keep things 'for best' - that day never comes. Use them and enjoy them now.0

i'm a long time lurker, very impressed with the inroads others have made with their 'mess'.
i've figured out my problem - my mess has built up over the last few years when i suffered with bad depression. And now it's at the point i know it needs dealing with, and i can organised how to do it in my head, but i think that i am afraid of what i might find at the bottom of the mess - as in icky things.....Cats don't have owners - they have staff!!DFW Long Hauler Supporter No 1500 -
Hi Messies.
Mcculloch, thanks for that link, I just listened to it and it`s really nice. Unfortunately, our Easter Snow here has NOT melted away yet!!
Scaredy Cat - Welcome! Your `Messy Status` is like most of us, it didn`t all happen overnight, and it`s built up for a reason.
So, it`ll not get cleared up overnight.
But you ARE on the way now - count the positive stuff:
1) You`ve been `lurking` here`, so you know it`s not just you!
2) You`ve identified the problem and its cause.
3) You`ve read how other Messies have been De-Messying, and how we encourage each other on here - and that really does help!
4) You`ve `de-lurked` now, and are thinking about how to get started... and about what`s stopping you.
Icky Stuff...
There`s all sorts of Icky Stuff, not sure which type you mean but I`m thinking stuff like ancient forgotten laundry gone all mouldy under a heap of other stuff? Or just rubbish like forgotten veg in a bag turning into a mini compost heap in a corner somewhere? Or old papers that have sort of fused together beyond recognition? Stuff you naturally won`t want to put your hands in.
The first rule is `Baby Steps` - tackle one small area that`s bugging you. You can`t do it all at once, but make a start.
Get some good rubber gloves, and a small shovel or strong kitchen tongs so you can be Brave about the Icky Stuff, and a strong bin bag, and start filling that bag. Once you`ve got a bag full, reward yourself with a break, come on here and brag about it, and plan your next step!
You are not alone, Good Luck!0 -

This has a pad attached with Velcro - type material so it can be removed for machine washing. Why has nobody thought of that before?!
Hi, I hope you don't mind me asking but I lurk quite a bit and jump in with questions, anyway trials of products would definitely motivate me to do things - can you point me in the direction of who to sign up with please? If its easier you could pm me?Happiness is wanting what you have...0 -
Well thought it was time I joined in!
I have a few weeks off work, so plan to use the time to spring clean.
Last week I did a huge declutter, took 2 carloads to a friend who has a second hand stall, so got £100 for my trouble. It's has been spent on paint as DH is decorating. So little DD's room tidied and sorted (wardrobe draws, under bed) same with our bedroom, got rid of all clothes shoes and things I've been hoarding. My room of doom is the play room and I have had a huge declutter in there (I do need to tidy and clean that one). I have cleaned the sitting room, emtied al the draws, moved the sofas to vac under, tidied the toy box. I also cleaned the 2 hallways, washed the skirting boards, the dado and picture. Rails and the coving ( it's an old house with original features beautiful but dirt magnets). I was actually quite shocked by the filth we had been living amongst.
I also cleaned the kitchen cupboard (doors only, need to to insides) and we have those wooden shutter blinds in the kitchen, however the window is 6 foot so huge job, took me 4 hours to get them clean!
Today is window cleaning day. I hope to carry on while I have the motivate and give the house a top to toe deep clean.
To do
Bathrooms, study, dining room, other (kids) sitting room, kitchen (inside cupboards).
Well better crack on!0 -
:wave:hello to new messies & welcome. As Emm says, the mantra here is babysteps, not least because if you find a way to clean the whole house at once, you'll be putting the rest of us to shame
I had a busy de-messying weekend as expected. Not a lot really happened on Saturday as OH wanted to go to town to buy various bits for his boat but Sunday was a major purge. Bathrrom was cleaned :j Kitchen was deep-cleaned - all stuff moved off worktops and every inch of work top, cupboard fronts and appliances cleaned. OH cleared the top of the fridge and cleaned up there and on top of the top cupboards. The only bits that didn't get done were the oven (self-cleaning and didn't have time to run through the cycle before dinner was needed - will do that tonight) and the top of the "pantry" cupboard (a series of wall units stacked on top of each other to make a tall, multi-doored, really accessible food storage cupboard). OH said he'd do that but we both ran out of steam around the same time - he connected up the radiator in the bathroom while I was doing most of the cleaning.
I now have permission to purchase a new microwave so I no longer have to worry about getting the old one clean! I've just got to decide what I want it to do and how much to spend. Last one was a present so equipped with loads more features than I'd ever bother to pay for.
Oh - & I remembered to change out of my wellies into my work shoes in the car this morning. We've got snow falling here again but none on the ground. At home its nearly all gone from the village but about 200yds out of the village, there's a huge snowdrift blocking half of the road. I've never seen anything like it!0 -
