When I lived in North London in the 1980s, councils were still emptying their estates of dodgy tenants by "encouraging" them to move to Thamesmead. I declined a scheme for those on Camden's housing waiting list; offering a council flat for those willing to make the move. If you get thrown out of Larner Road flats in Erith (itself a major dump), Thamemead is where you will most likely be rehoused. It really is for those who have run out of options.
    Been away for a while.
  • I was the lucky recipient of the Tory-run GLC's gerrymandering tactics in the 70s. I was offered a flat in Thamesmead but thought better of it and took one in Tottenham instead. That's how bad Thamesmead was then and still is now. In fact, it's probably got worse in the 30 years since. And at least the transport links where I am now are decent and I have no BNP cretins for neighbours either

I'm not familiar with London, but I trust your judgment from the many threads I have seen you on.

Is this the sort of place if you ran you would be chased, too? :rotfl:

It's the kind of place where tom cats go round in pairs.

Mostly - Parts of Walderslade (Maidstone Rd?) Upper Gillingham, central (historic) Rochester and a few parts in Chatham are nice tho

Rainham is supposed to be nice too

Trains from Medway are much better than Maidstone, you have high speed every 30 mins plus the normal ones in between. I don't commute but need to go to London a couple of times a month and a colleague going from Maidstone has much less choice.

Maidstone is also a lot dearer than Medway.
Remember the saying: if it looks too good to be true it almost certainly is.
