Help with converting mpeg to DVD file for burning

Ok, another option for you. 1st Defrag your harddrive, as you need a relatively 'clean' drive to do this and thus avoid the lip sync problems. Then download and install the free version of ConvertXtodvd formerly known as divxtodvd from here: http://www.videohelp.com/tools?tool=vso_DivXtoDVD
It's quite intuitive to use. Simply load the mpg file you have, set the output folder, then goto the setting option and ensure the output format is PAL, then simply press the convert button and wait the 40 minutes or so for it to create a set of files:
AUDIO_TS
VIDEO_TS
Inside the audio file you will find nothing, but inside the video folder you will find your new vobs, bup, ifo files. Burn these files as data to your chosen dvd and play in your dvd player.
The reason why your present dvd player doesn't see the .mpg file is it doesn't adhere to the dvd standards ie: a PAL SVCD is an mpg stream with a 44000kbps sound\audio track, so it needs to be upsampled. Or increased to at least 48000kbps and have a vob extention for your dvd player (normally) to register it has a dvd in the drive.
Don't forget to defrag your drive before doing this as otherwise you may end up with lip sync problems.
HTHIt could have been worse. At least source code's not combustible, or you can bet somebody at McAfee would have lit it.0 -
how would you defrag the drive???0
-
To defrag from within windows, assuming you are using XP
click on start
then all programs
then accessories
then system tools
then Disk Defragmenter
It can take a fair while depending on the size of your disc. So set it going when you won't need the PC for an hour or two or three or four.....It's my problem, it's my problem
If I feel the need to hide
And it's my problem if I have no friends
And feel I want to die0 -
My cheap and cheerful DVD players, bought from Lidl and Aldi, play every MPEG video thrown at them. Aldi one plays DivX too.0

I agree with ABH. I use ConvertXtoDVD and it's the best I've ever used. I have never had a synch problem (or a failure) with this program. It is slow to use but it encodes a video file into a small high quality VOB file (TS).
Another point, make sure you have the correct codecs installed on your computer to playback the files!
Finnerty, I think video encoding is a case of trial and error. It has taken me
lots of encoding programs, quality settings changes and tests to find the perfect encoder that is right for what I want.0 -

I have just recorded onto my hard drive a programm shown on the tv it is in mpeg video format and is 1.97 GB it lasts an hour...now i don't understand the different formats at all, and was wondering if a straight rip on to a dvd+R via my computer dvd-rewriter would play in a normal dvd player or do I have to convert the file to a different format...if so which format and how do I go about it
Thanks in advance
Not all DVD players wil play Mpeg files, in fact, most probably won't - you need to use a DVD authoring program to make disks that wil play in a DVD player or it won't recognise the mpeg format.
Your PC DVD burner should usually come with a program to do this already - you shouldn't need to download /buy more software.
If you already have Power Producer ( as I have) you have the software required - you didn't need any other software. Just import your mpeg into a Power Producer Project.0 -
Just use Gui for DVDauthor available here http://download.videohelp.com/gfd/#Overview
its free, not a trial, and will create a dvd from mpg files. (If you've got vob files just change the extension to mpg)
Also does menus so if more than one mpg/dvd file needs to be put on a disk you can easily navigate.
Never had any trouble with it.
