Are they allowed to talk to you as though you are a piece of **** on the bottom of their shoe?
That's all I've had today, and it's making me think twice about visiting this forum. All I've tried to do is pass on experience to someone who asked, and I've been called a liar and basically stupid!!!
I'm with you on this one, being accused of making referrals where is I wasn't, just tried to be helpful and make contribution to the forum, but all i got back was that I was posting referral links.....don't worry, think it's because we're "newbies" and people who have been here longer may not remember Martin's message on Grabbit board which says: "People will make mistakes, and we have to educate not alienate."...

From this thread i have gotten the idea that you don't like criticism, and you perhaps, reacted badly to it. Maybe you felt it was unfair (as suggested by this thread)
I suggest you just ignore things you don't like; this is the internet, people can say what they want and get away with it in general. Just move on, find another part of the board, there is plenty of friendly people on here waiting for you!Total payment recieved from GPT etc as June: £0.000 -

I've read the 'paypal' thread and, assuming that it's the one you're referring to, I thought you came over as somewhat aggressive when someone (who incidentally is the Board Guide for that forum) gave you what to me seemed sensible advice.
Excessive use of certain characters e.g. ???? also makes you appear aggressive. You did that a lot in the posts after you took offence at Soolin's advice. What are you talking about??? I do understand Paypal. The payment showed as CLEARED so I presumed that it was there to withdraw. It was only by chance I actually sat and thought about it (and the fact about the cost of postage), and decided to hold on to the item until the money had cleared in my bank account. And wasn't that a good job??? Otherwise I would have lost the phone with no money for it.
But, that is one of three times I have had to do that. The other two were watches that sold for £100+. I stated on the listing that, if they went for over £50, I would need the money cleared in my bank account before posting. Neither buyers had a problem with that and both left +ive feedback.
And how did it not make sense?? Do you not speak English???
Don't you think that the final sentence in your post on the 'paypal' thread sounds rude?
Don't you think that sounds like you're talking to that poster as though he/she is a "piece of **** on the bottom of your shoe"?0 -
As I didn't write them until AFTER they suggested that I lied and didn't understand how paypal work....libertysurf wrote: »If tempers rise - give them back what they gave you. ..
And this is where the forums spirals down out of control...
He pushed me first... My dad is bigger than your dad... blah blah blah..
The really sad thing is, when everyone starts arguing, the OP's really don't get their questions answered.
As for stupid, sarcastic or simply rude comments, rather than lowering yourself to their level, why not simply ignore the comment ? There are threads on these boards where has happened - and the result is that the person being rude or sarcastic is made to look even more ridiculous because they are simply ignored by everyone.
PS: If they really annoy you - simply add them to your "Ignore" list“That old law about 'an eye for an eye' leaves everybody blind. The time is always right to do the right thing.”0 -
I like to be as rude as possible to people in cyberspace for no better reason than to make myself laugh

Don't worry about it.... there are a few very ignorant people who post on here that either don't know the facts or just don't understand the circumstances of the person posting. Just ignore it and perhaps, don't rise to it, OVER THE HEAD !!!

Well I'm bored and nosey so I looked at the thread and I think it escalated because you were ruder than the person you're accusing. Soolin's wording of 'Seriously, stop using paypal until you understand it' was a bit harsh but ultimately they were trying to help you by making a valid point and then you just threw it back with things that were much ruder like 'Do you not speak English???'
Sorry.
It's unusual for a sentence with more than one ? to come across as anything other than rude/sarcastic/impatient on this forum.
Do you like cats? Would seem like a normal question
Do you like cats???? Would seem like you're accusing someone of hating cats / treating them badly
hah, sorry that's a stupid example!0 -
I use "????" all the time, it's certainly not meant to be rude. If it were, I WOULD HAVE PUT IT LIKE THIS, maybe some underlining, italics, some angry faces......
He said none of my post made any sense, so I asked (with reasoning) do you not speak English?
And it doesn't make any difference if he's on the board of ---, I gave experience, and you know the rest.
For someone who is supposed to be there to "help", he doesn't do that much. Telling someone to "go and learn how to you it properly" is absolutely ridiculous. Especially in the terms of paypal.
I almost lost the item I sold, and if it hadn't been for me thinking about it, I would have lost it. The OP wanted advice, I gave it to them. And for that I had a backlash!!Thanks to all posters :A0 -

Look, we're only trying to point out ways that your posts may have been misconstrued.
Both I and Marzipanfish have made the same point about excessive use of certain characters such as ????.
If you're asking a question, a single '?' is sufficient.
And you don't think this was rude?Originally Posted by jaibaby

I do.
Sarcasm (see highlighted sentence below) can also put people's back up.Woah!
How am I coming across as rude??
The OP asked advice, I gave it, and for my trouble was accused of lying and told "to learn how to use paypal properly". And I'm being rude?
There was me thinking I was informing them what could (and did) happen.
(Note to self - Naughty jaibaby! Musn't do that!)
I'm afraid if you want to carry on on here without getting all het up, you'll either have to think about how your post comes across before you hit 'Submit Reply' or grow a thicker skin.0
