why uninstall a more secure, updated version of a browser that will be on the computer anyway?

    People are fickle.

neither / use FF or the awesome Opera 11 /

Thanks for your advice.... I have tended to use ie.. and I thought that Opera was only for linux.... so I have just downloaded it and I couldn't believe how fast it is... It's the difference between night and day...

It might take me a few days to get used to it... but as I spend a lot of time on the internet, I need something with speed.

    Thanks again..

the OP is using Vista or Win7, so IE is going to be on there anyway

so why have an old version on the computer when the new version is more secure?

do you suggest that people not upgrade to FF4, the newest version of chrome etc?

i dont want to get it and find it is worse

My initial comment was in relation to that statement from the OP.

How and why a person forms an opinion is very subjective, I was merely highlighting that trying it out and coming to their own conclusion isn't going to be a one way street. For some reason, you seem insistent on making it into something much more than it is.

For the record, I think IE9 is an exception browser but I'm not going to be evangelical in my attitude towards it because being that way about anything is a waste of time.

IE9 appears to be a faster browser as the java script is integerated into it but I don't like the default format with the menu bar hidden. I tried all tricks to tweak and get it installed permanently, but it just wouldn't stay. I followed all the instructions given here; I had to pull up the registry manually because it just wouldn't show up for me. So it doesn't stay up for me. It is tedious to use a browser that doesn't have the very basic tools like file, edit and viewing options on the menu bar. So, I'll wait until I get the menu bar sorted before I switch.

Since IE8 and now IE9 the text never looks right it looks sort of off focus, only time i use it is for online banking

Not sure what causes it to look out of focus but its annoying

I dont know what I have done wrong but I installed IE9 and it opens as a blank screen. You can hover the mouse over the page and see that stuff is there but you just cant see it. This was with teh MSN homepage. I uninstalled and went back to IE8.

I tried everything I could think of to sort it, fonts, colours. Googled the problem (noone else seemed to have the same issue), re-installed.

If anyone else has had this issue/knows how to resolve please let me know!
