fred do any of you have mobile phones? just wondering, because i just signed up to a really good tariff of £10 a month with virgin, it's for 300 texts and 300 minutes. if you're an ntl customer 2 people can have the virgin deal (and if you pay £2.99 you get a phone), or if you're not with virgin you could pay £15 am month for the tariff.

of course if you don't have mobiles ignore my post and don't get one :D

can i be nosey and ask why your phone/internet is so expensive? i'm on the NTL 3 for £30 deal which is phone, basic TV package and internet, with free local weekend calls or something like that.

if you've got a BT lije can't you get free internet with sky?

Our area is not covered by NTL. We pay 18-50 a month to BT for line rental, then another 7-99 to aol for aol talk, 29-99 for broadband and the rest is what aol say we make in calls. I know the broadband is high and it is on my list of things to cut down the price.

  • ouch!

Ok with regards to th phone line, use 1899 prefix to get free calls all day (search on here for the deal) put your LR down to the lowest with BT and use the prefix for everything. That should take it down to around £18 about £11 for basic BT and another £7 for calls on top each month. Broadband you can get easily for £14.99 i have 2 meg for that.

straight away your cutting it down to £32.99 pm instead of £65. See above about DLA xx

My humblest apologies for not answering your question straight away, I am trying to juggle a trillion and one things around but unfortunately was only made with one pair of hands.
My girls do get dla but it is a taboo subject in our house plus they use the pc so I do not want ww3.
I also think you should watch the way you post as it has a bit of an aggressive tone to me or your caps lock key was accidentally knocked.

  • I didnt have an agressive tone at all, I was just asking again, like a lot of other posters. I understand you have alot to struggle with I do too, we are all here to uspport each other, but surely the DLA should be included in your incomings, that was my point? I get IB and I couldnt live without the extra income it generates.

I am sorry if you were sensitive to my post, I just felt you were avoiding answering the question, apologies.

  • Hi. Welcome back. I'm glad you haven't let a few put you off. I seem to remember saying to head over to the Old Style board to try and get your housekeeping down, get rid of sky/reduce it if possible.

If you need to get multiple prescriptions have you looked at the Prescription prepayment certificate- it works out cheaper if you have to get more than one presription a month I think. Unfortunately I think it is individuals only. I can't remember if this was mentioned before or not so sorry if it is not approriate. The link is https://www.ppa.org.uk/ppa/ppc/patient.jsp#top

If you get certain benefits though you can apply to get prescriptions free I think but not sure of the details though - sorry.

is there anyway at all that you can broach this subject with them? i see you are also paying pocketmoney - is that going to your other children? i guess it would improve your financial situ in the short term as i'm guessing their DLA isnt going towards their keep. then again if it starts WW3 it might make things very unhappy. but then you are very unhappy struggling with debt, and you need to make as many changes and cutbacks as possible to improve your financial situ.

as regards your broadband - if its any help we're with wanadoo (who are now orange) and we pay £17.99 for a 2meg connection but this includes unlimited free calls evenings and weekends. our landline is with BT and i think it's £9.99 so perhaps you can make a saving there. perhaps aol will be able to do something with your phonecalls? eg match other companies offers to keep you as their customer?
