tax credits - it's just what govt calls it now (for the time being!!!) - tax credits when it used be called some other benefit, cant remember what though...
op - maybe you could post details of your monthly "household" expenditure. This seems really high and I'm fairly sure you may be able to cut up to £500 off it with some help from regulars on here - depends what it goes on but I dont think youll really be able to sort out finances until YOU know what it goes on - which is a really good way to start, try and itemise it all and then come back here and post, even on a new "how can I cut down my household spending" thread if you prefer, see if someone can help.0 -
i know a single mum on income support and while it used to be that you got one amount from income support for you and the children it now seems that you get some income support and some child tax credits. you don't have to be a taxpayer to get tax credit, and people working for 16 hours a week on minimum wage wouldn't be paying tax either i assume? tax credits are a top-up for those on low incomes, not necessarily paying tax.

well the year is ending horribily for us, we have all been ill, then the dog have to have an emergency operation, (extremely expensive) and then i get a call to say my dad has got worse and is going into a hospice to die. Havent got the money to pay for the train/coach fares for us to go and see him.Have you got a job yet?

Big hugs OP.
RE: Dog op costs. If you are in receipt of HB / Council Tax Relief then many vets have a discount scheme - might be worth checking with your vet if this applies to them. Also remember the PDSA do discounted t/t for those in receipt of benefit.
RE: Visiting your dad. It is worth ringing the Hospice and explaining the situation. Many Hospices have a fund to cover contingencies like this.

or what about just you going to see him?52% tight0

So sorry to hear all your bad news, pets are members of the family and it is devastating when they are seriously ill. It must be awful to realise that your dad won't be around for much longer but I can honestly assure you that he will be wonderfully cared for in the hospice. I have been to a few and without exception they are lovely safe caring places where people are helped to make the most of the last part of their life. All the drastic lifesaving stuff has been given up, the focus is on making people as comfortable and happy and painfree as possible. Forget gloom and doom, it's about kindness and smiles. I agree with rainbowrisin and miggy - let the hospice know what difficulties you are in with visiting and they will have ideas about how you can be in as much contact with him as possible. I was going to change Electric and gas but the balance owed on both is something i cannot afford. We have also now had a huge loss of income due to the tax credits going down. I am in need of help as CCCS will not help until the income/expend is better than it is now. Any help woould be greatly appreciated. Also had to pay out £375 on an emergency op for the dog and came to a agreement with the vet to cancel cheque and get help with the costs and pay the fee in installments but my bank have cocked up and allowed the cheque to go through.Have you got a job yet?

I do not see how you can't afford to pay the bus fare to go see your dad? Your spending looks very extravigant to me. Perhaps I have different priorities BUT, THE Sky, clothes, housekeeping, gas and lec, pocket money, biethday money and £375 vet fees would come a long secondweymuffred wrote:[

I know certain things are high and I am doing my best to change things , but I really can do without comments like yours.
At the moment I really feel like jacking life in as I am fed up of continuously getting bad news and trouble. One can only take so much before you say enough is enough.Have you got a job yet?
