DLA is not counted as income for any purpose, as it is supposed to be used purely for the person who is disabled with extra help/items they need and mobility - so it's not really appropriate to use that money to reduce family debt.

OP - I don't know what you're entitled to benefits-wise, but as someone who does benefits advocacy, it's as well that you check.

This site enables you to do it on-line:

    http://www.entitledto.co.uk/

There is also a benefits checkline on: Benefits Enquiry Line (BEL) on 0800 882200 for anyone with disability in their family. They will help you without having to know who you are etc., - just tell them your circumstances.

When you're skint, it's always helpful if you can generate a little more money from the government.........;)

    Good luck.

"The DLA should be declaired as income, we get ours taken off the other money coming in."

Just seen this - DLA is NEVER counted as income and never results in less money from other sources (in fact, it generates more money from other sources with premiums).

If this poster is getting other things reduced because of DLA then they need to go to the CAB for them to take it up with whoever is counting DLA as income, as it shouldn't be happening.

I posted about buying a digisender which will save you the extra you pay for Sky Multiroom, however it means you watching the same channels! (I didnt realise this till ages after I posted)

You buy them from Argos, we use a digisender in the kitchen and the bedroom. They cost about £60 from Argos.

From today Lidl are selling these for £19.99.

My wife has received the all clear for cancer, which for me is the best ever xmas present I could wish for (if only I could find a cure for my dad). Anyway we will slowly but surely getting back into reducing our outgoings and then deciding whether to go bancrupt, or go on a dmp.
My main worry is the hsbc loan which comes out of our account by standing order every month at approx 210 per month, in whic we have a whopping 57 payments more to make before it goes.
Have you got a job yet?

    NO? Then :shhh:

Best wishes to your wife, and I bet you're both hugely relieved - there is nothing more inportant than good health - all else can be sorted.:j

I suggest you go to either the CAB or contact CCCS and get some professional debt advice with what will be your best way forward.

    Good luck.

Hi Fred, congratulations on your good news. You and your family have obviously been through hell these last few months.
I don't know if it has been mentioned before but if you pay payment protection on the loan you could look into stopping that and so reducing the monthly cost.

Sooooo pleased to hear the good news about your wife! With that major worry out of the way you will find it a little easier to tackle the finances.
I'm sorry about your Dad though - I know how it is not to be able to help ones parents :-( Just being there for him may be of help.
And you posted seriously late last night - did you get the chance of a lie-in this morning? Or was it the back pain?
