Aww hun, the hardest part is living through the lightbulb and facing the truth about the debts.
From there you then regain control of your finances. Good luck again with your debt free journey. xxx

I seem to remember you can't get Freeview because of your location but you were moving to a cheaper Sky package...

He can get FREESAT though and he's entitled to free vet care via the BLue Cross or PDSA.
  • sorry if someone has posted this already, but sky have an offer on at the momnent to get broadband, basic sky plus free weekend and eveing calls for £26 per month (you will still need to pay line rental to BT which I think is abot £10-15pm). Hope this helps and well done for deciding to take control of your finances.
  • What's the £14 month ext warranty?

Is the £210 loan for £12500 HSBC?

Sorry if these have already been asked - I've read the thread but could have missed it.

I don't think you can afford to keep the dog. With monthly medication and operation it's too expensive for your income.

I've only just found this thread and got as far as you mentioning your dogs medication, there is a company on quidco called Petmeds the first two medications are available on there and you get 5% cash back. You do, however need to get a prescription from your vet which they are obliged to give you. https://www.quidco.com

  • You say that you are on incme support and yet have rent and council tax to pay - I do not understand this, unless the payments you are making are for any arrears only... as you should get full CT and maybe full rent if on IS...

If the debts are ocncerning you too much - have you considered bankruptcy - as this would write them off as you are on benefits... This would cost you £325 - you would be eligible for the discount cos on IS..

However, you have to go bankrupt as an individual... so if some of the debts are in your name and some are in your partners, or some are joint, you may need to look at both of you going BR...

You should have a look on National Debtlines excellent site for further info and maybe also go to your local CAB to make an appt with a money adviser, who could look into your income and expenditure and the issue raised above re you not getting full HB/CTB... And if BR is not an option you want to take, then the CAB should be able to negotiate repayment plans with all the creditors...

This would mean (as you are on IS)

Payments of £2.90 per week to any priority debts
Payments of £1 per month to any non priority debts...

A priority debt includes, rent and CT arrears, gas and electric... basicall a debt which has higher snactions - eviction, disconnection etc etc...

A non priority debt is one which is a credit debt and as such the sanctions for non payment are lower, as they can only chase these debts via the county court and any Judge would allow you to repay them at the rate of £1 per month due to you being on income support...

They are receiving housing benefit and council tax benefit.
  • But if they go bankrupt & don't have the credit cards, then how will they be able to fund the lifestyle they feel they deserve while not actually paying for any of it themselves?
  • Hmmmm... Im going mad... When I clicked on the post, I read down the page and added my two-penneth as you do... then realised there were actually ten pages... so missed out on reading the other 9 pages, realised my error, but thought, hey if its been said before, then it can be disregarded...

Now on dinner time, will have a read through the rest...
