Thank you, trisontana, for your patient and informative responses on this thread. You've been a much greater help than the lesser-minded individuals on here who only seek to cast scorn and sarcasm on others from their self-appointed pedestals of "expert opinion". I thought it was obvious that I was out of my depth on this matter, hence I decided to seek out advice on these forums as people on here tend to know more about these issues than your average person, but what I have encountered so far are mainly morons who've nothing better to do than nip in with snide comments rather than attempt to offer advice.
Now, having taken in what decent advice I've been given, my next query is: although I understand that this parking company have no more enforcable rights than you or I, and although what I've received isn't a legal parking notice- what's to stop them actually contacting a court and actually issuing legal proceedings against me? I've been told it's "unlikely", but why is this so?

Maybe if you hadn't been such an ar53 about things then you may have engendered more goodwill.

As it is, many people now hope you do got taken to court and lose your [potential] new job.

    Nice work.

A PPC case that is taken to court is very weak from the outset if they are relying on contract or trespass. Most CCJ's are obtained against people who have defaulted on signed contracts or credit agreements.
It is a toss up for the PPC as if they are allocated to a judge who knows contract law they will lose. If they sue for trespass they can recover any loss usually about a £1. They have too much to prove to convince a Judge that 1, you agreed to a contract 2, you caused a loss by trespassing or breaching said contract.
Another point is even when a PPC goes to court if the case is defended they usually drop it, for two reasons 1, they will lose and 2, if they attend and win they will be losing money. Whatever their judgement is granted for it would not cover their costs.
Even if the very unlikely happened and a summons arrived if a defence was entered it would probably be dropped. If they did pursue it, you would probably win. if you didn't win and a judgement was made against you as long as you paid it within 28 days the judgement would not be registered, so you still would not have a CCJ to worry about.
You probably have 0.025% chance of being taken to court in reality. Its really up to you if you don't want to chance it then the only option is to pay and make it go away, but even that is not guaranteed we have seen them come back for more.
