    Same when people put their car up on eBay with the number plates covered.

    Correct. The regulations don't actually list a zero or the letter I in the prescribed font.
    If you lend someone a tenner and never see them again, it was probably worth it.

    That's my point really, a lot of ANPR is done by stationary vans or traffic cars. If they read an error it'll be !!!!!! creek with no paddle and far worse if it's showing a plate belonging to another vehicle.
