M&S tells customers a third party may have email details and names of there customers

I don't care about getting spam emails but when my account was hacked they sent out spam emails in my name to hundreds of other emails and hundreds of them bounced back to my account. I hate the thought of people thinking these emails come from me.
Anyone could send messages from you even without hacking your account. I could send an email to someone from bill.gates@microsoft.com, if I wanted to with no hacking at all. Most spam filters should pick up that its not genuine as the headers don't match but if to a normal person looking at the email they would see the email as coming from bill.gates@microsoft.com
Most people don't seem to realise that, and think you need to hack and account to send email as someone.0 -

And Marriott hotels, got an email from them yesterday.
Haven't seen any increase in spam though.Accept your past without regret, handle your present with confidence and face your future without fear0 -
As I advised previously and I trust the email was a good one !:)0

We have been informed by Epsilon, a company we use to send emails to our customers, that some M&S customer email addresses have been accessed without authorisation.
We would like to reassure you that the only information that may have been accessed is your name and email address. No other personal information, such as your account details, has been accessed or is at risk.
We wanted to bring this to your attention as it is possible that you may receive spam email messages as a result. We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause you. We take your privacy very seriously, and we will continue to work diligently to protect your personal information.

Should I be concerned about this??
I'm not concerned - I get so much spam anyway, that a few more isn't going to make much odds.
I just delete them from the spam folder, daily, once I am sure I don't want a 12" penis, a 52" inch bust or feel the need to invest in a Nigerian businessman trying to get his millions out of there via my bank account........... :rotfl:
LinYou can tell a lot about a woman by her hands..........for instance, if they are placed around your throat, she's probably slightly upset.0 -
If they so diligent and take your privacy seriously, why are Epsilom contracted to send emails for them?
In other words, a employee has sold your information, he made a fortune. Or sorry our system was hacked we are cheap when it comes to security
This is why the census won't be filled in by me, all we get is sorry for the inconvenience in return.
It's unwise to drink too much before posting! For businesses to sub-contract specialist areas is hardly new and economies of scale and expertise make it sensible.
As for the census previous posts have already established your sad credentials in this area. What do you expect to get "in return" whatever the merits of the process or questions?0 -
Spam filters shouldn't really cause a problem. I check my spam folder every couple of days before hitting the delete all button. Takes about 90 seconds. Gmail handles my spam brilliantly.0

Got the M&S email, as I had just applied for a CC from them and got accepted the other day.
Seeing just that I had an email from M&S, I thought oh no, it may be an email to say sorry you haven't got it afterall.
So in the end it was a relief it wasn't lol.
Also had the play.com email along similar lines the other week.
As far as security of details go, in life on or offline we can only do so much to protect ourselves. It doesn't matter if you are 110% cautious, there is still a chance your security will be compromised.0
