But we don't know if M&S use any outside contractor for their card processing, or who it is.
M&S employed a company that got hacked, so I'd prefer not to take the risk.
I personally don't think its over the top to cancel my account to be on the safe side.
I shouldn't have to set up spam filtering because M&S employed a company whose security was not up to scratch, I gave them money for items in good faith, and they have let me down.
What about your bank? They hold your card details too and an awful lot more then that. Card encryption is way ahead of simple email marketing encryption.
These things happen and the people who have hacked epsilon are probably only doing it to show they can as they have noticed a weakness in the system and are exploiting it.. And to send spam.
You are going very overboard with it all i must say.one of the famous 50 -
We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause you.
I see this all the time, hit you with bad news and they say this like its compensation enough.
If they so diligent and take your privacy seriously, why are Epsilom contracted to send emails for them?
In other words, a employee has sold your information, he made a fortune. Or sorry our system was hacked we are cheap when it comes to security
This is why the census won't be filled in by me, all we get is sorry for the inconvenience in return.Owed out = lots. :cool:0 -
M&S chose to use a company that got hacked, why would I use them again?fluffnutter wrote: »Everyone's at risk of being hacked. To be on the safe side, I think you ought to stop using the internet
Good advice. Always best to be safe than sorry.;):D0 -

Advertising is totally different to personal details.Owed out = lots. :cool:0 -
Advertising is totally different to personal details.
But thats all this company do for M&S send out advertising emails.. All they have is the email and the name of the person it corresponds to - its not like they can do much with that.
So what was your point again?one of the famous 50 -
I received the same email but it hasn't particularly bothered me.
They didn't have to bother emailing anyone to apologise - I suspect it's affected plenty more online companies who are just keeping it quiet.0 -

ye gads
stupidity knows no bounds
card payment processing is generally done by the merchant banks, or service providers owned by the merchant banks
M&S have probably employed couriers that have lost items, contractors that have had workplace accidents, suppliers that have had fires;
has any of that happening ever increased your risk?
cancelling your M&S account will have zero affect on your email or any spam you get
your email address is already out there, & its pretty much guaranteed that you were getting spam before this incident.
how have M&S let you down? presumably the goods were delivered? the goods were ok?
the email provider they used will have been on top of security, but as they are a specialist firm, with many major customers, they are a target for hackers. the hackers will devote quite a lot of time & resources to gaining access to this one company.
anyone thats got email has already got some sort of spam filtering in place0 -

or maybe they should do absolutely nothing & wither away & die
theres risk with everything
though wittering on that spam is somehow a risk, when it isnt, is stupid0 -
I don't care about getting spam emails but when my account was hacked they sent out spam emails in my name to hundreds of other emails and hundreds of them bounced back to my account. I hate the thought of people thinking these emails come from me.0
