Its not just an email address, its the same address I've been using for years, so many people I've lost contact with will still have it to get in touch in the future.

Slightly confused by that statement, but I think I know what you mean

I don't get a lot of spam in it, but it seems to be getting worse.

I don't want a spam filter, because it catches some of the emails I want to see.

Spam email is getting worse no matter if your email is hacked or not. Computers with "bots" churn out billions of emails and also have random email generators. All it takes is one hit and the details are spread globally.

Any decent Spam filter is capable of being configured to the users best experience.

And do not ignore the fact that some email is filtered by your ISP at their main servers before it even reaches your email client Spam filter.

This has affected lots of companies that use Epsilon, there are probably still more to be announced.

    You are over-reacting IMO.
M&S systems have not had a problem, an external partner who only uses a list of names and email addresses has. Worrying about your card details is over the top.

But we don't know if M&S use any outside contractor for their card processing, or who it is.

M&S employed a company that got hacked, so I'd prefer not to take the risk.

I personally don't think its over the top to cancel my account to be on the safe side.

I shouldn't have to set up spam filtering because M&S employed a company whose security was not up to scratch, I gave them money for items in good faith, and they have let me down.

    ok, I'll do it...

    it's not just any old spam, it's M & S spam...:rotfl:

I expect all Epsilon hold are email addresses as said before. All the 'hackers' will have is a list, which really is just a way for them not to spend ages trawling through email addys to find ones that respond.

Any spam I receive goes into the junk folder. I can look at the incoming and decide if I want to look at the email or not depending on the from address. Not really difficult.

uk-tyler, what would you do if someone found out your home address? Move?

Hardly the same, is it? I used to get spam through the letterbox everyday, but stopped that by writing to Royal Mail.

I want an email address where I don't have to clear lots of spam out.

I don't want to set spam filters that might just filter out emails I want.

M&S chose to use a company that got hacked, why would I use them again?

Does this mean you are going to cancel all your online accounts? Or just those that use Epsilom? Or just all those data centres that have lost data ever?

You've certainly got a thing about spam filters, uk-tyler! Personally I wouldn't be without mine. But (other than the mails that my ISP blocks at source) I can still see everything. My account just sticks it all in a folder called Spam. I can check this periodically if I'm concerned. All decent ISP and email account providers have sophisticated spam filters. You shouldn't find yourself missing emails.

Everyone's at risk of being hacked. To be on the safe side, I think you ought to stop using the internet :D

Hope you don't use Barclaycard, Citigroup bank, a subsidiary of the Amazon website, Capital One (the credit card), JPMorgan Chase and the Marriott International hotel group because all of them have been impacted by the Epsilon hack as well ? If you do, best to cancel all of your accounts with them to be on the safe side;).
