By God, take a week offline and a thread explodes into "1984"
Welcome to Norn Iron by the way EdgEy, its a nice wee place where we are used to having our bags searched, being stopped without reason and searched in the streets, a few years ago we had it done by big heavily armed soldiers  We are more tolerant over here as we have grown up with it
A few more cameras on our roads will not bother us, in fact as I have stated previously if it makes everyone on the road pay Car Tax and Insurance and have legally MOT'd cars then put one on every bloody street:T
We do understand your opinions, and we have read your endless posts containing them without much derision to yourself, I think the topic has spiraled into something that the OP had not intended;)
As for camera's inside my 4 walls  if you visit https://www.isleepwithfarmanaimalsinaninappropriateway.com I'm the one with the blackband over my eyes, but for Gods sake, keep it to yourselfI am trying, honest;) very trying according to my dear OH:rotfl:0 -

You talk as if you are speaking for the whole country. This is incorrect.
"its a nice wee place where we are used to having our bags searched, being stopped without reason and searched in the streets" -
Nonsense I haven't been searched in almost 20 years. Have you not realised that stopped quite some time ago.
"We are more tolerant over here as we have grown up with it" -
Complete tripe. You may speak for yourself, please dont assume we all share your opinions.0 -

Well maybe I'm a wee bit older than youbut I have vivid memories of entering Royal Avenue through searching huts, and being frisked at the entrance to major city centre stores, maybe it was just me
Maybe I am just more tolerant as you say or maybe I have more to worry about in my life than a few additional cameras on the road:o
I think this thread needs a chill pill and the trolls to go back under the bridgeI am trying, honest;) very trying according to my dear OH:rotfl:0 -

I think you need to be a bit less condescending.
Anyhow, the ANPR cameras aren't a huge deal per se, *if they are used for the purpose for which they are intended*.
However, the concern about ALL these initiatives is "scope creep", where they are gradually extended to have more and more uses and to gradually intrude even more on *innocent* peoples' privacy.
Stevey, did you actually *trust* the last Labour government with any of the crackpot schemes which they implemented?0 -

Your the one who crawled back out from under the bridge to reignite the thread where you not. Or were we just suppose to not respond to your drivel0 -

Wasn't being condescending at all, I'm sorry if I have upset anyone that way.
The OP was about ANPR cameras, but it was hijacked by Orwell fans and their conspiracy theories:o
D.A. I don't *Trust* any government should they be red or blue, or green or yellow for that matter, they are all a bunch of crooks IMHO :rotfl:
Oh and BBIW, I didn't crawl back out from under any bridge, I am a regular poster here, I was offline for a week or so to move house and found it quiet funny if not hysterical how the thread had moved from ANPR cameras to monitoring your every move and stealing your DNA profiles:eek: Again if I have offending you in any way I most humbly apologiseI am trying, honest;) very trying according to my dear OH:rotfl:0 -

This is very true D.A. and there are several other concerns that need to be looked at.
These cameras have been brought in with no public consultation. No parliamentary debate. And no legislation even though this was promised by David Blunkett before they would be installed.
These have been installed by the police and they are monitored by the police without no outside control or scrutiny whatsoever. Its a closed shop. They can install them where they like, when they like and any police person can access the data within the first 3 months without giving a reason. And as you already said there is nothing in place to stop "future creep" where by these cameras use can be changed or shared with other government bodies/organisations ect
I thought i was living in a democratic and free society but when i look at these cameras and their way of implementation it looks more like North Korea.0 -

You would prefer everyone to fall in line and have the same opinion.
I simply pointed out to people my views about them and i can guarantee you that the vast majority of people have no idea that these cameras are actually taking your data. Data i might add that has been classed as "Personal information" by the association of chief police officers.
They are doing it without our permission and so it must be classed as theft.0 -

The PSNI are the most scrutinised service in the world. If procedure is not followed the ombudsman, internal discipline and a number of other bodies would be all over it. If you're a law abiding person, you should have no reason to worry as information on you will be of no interest to the Police.0 -

Oh really
Well i hate to bring you this news but thats the problem, there are no procedures in place. Perhaps you could enlighten me if you know otherwise.
And can you explain how it is that when we are law abiding citizens and the police then as you say have no interest in us. Why on earth would they feel the need to forcible keep a log of our every movement for 5 years?0
