If your car is taxed, insured and MoT'd and you're not up to anything you shouldn't be then you have nothing to fear. Any measures that make life difficult for those doing otherwise are to be applauded and to suggest otherwise is just ridiculous.

I wondered how long it would be before the old "nothing to hide, nothing to fear" chestnut was produced.

Well it is true, I am a good living, tax paying citizen of our wee country and have no objections to my car being mapped throughout the land, I have nothing to hide, in fact the mundane police will be arresting me shortly for being so boring :rotfl:

I had a police visit several years ago due to a murder, the suspect car used during this was similar colour and make to my own, and during the night in question it passed a police station with my wife driving back from work. I had no objections to helping the local bobbies and they said if they had better cameras with Number Plate recognition they would have so much more time freed up from chasing bum leads :o These new cameras are just that :T I am very happy to see my taxes being used to fund these and reduce crime:T
I am trying, honest;) very trying according to my dear OH:rotfl:

Frankly I don't care what someone argues. If they are determined to hide the details of their movements and actions, I would immediately be suspicious of them.

It would be interesting to know how these people would react if one of their family was murdered and the killer got away because the law didn't allow the police enough power to follow and surveil people. I somehow doubt they would smile and accept it as a fair price for their secrecy.
    Always overestimating...

Oh come on. Why don't you move to an island and apply your own system? Then you innocent (but objecting) individuals can be free from big brother and enjoy the attentions of the criminals who you have made it damned near impossible to stop.

And I strongly suspect you WERE consulted. Just because the public representative you helped elect did not do what YOU wanted, does not mean that you were not consulted!

    Where you consulted?

Unlike you i have wrote to my Mp who might i say is equally disgusted as they were not informed either!

Sorry newbie (if you are one) but I have to agree if you have nothing to hide then why object?

So people like this should just get away with it? http://www.cambstimes.co.uk/news/mercedes_car_thief_drove_through_fenland_level_crossing_in_90mph_police_chase_1_866679

No need to be sorry, just explain please, as you did not answer the question.

"The stolen car triggered an Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) camera in Peterborough and officers tried to stop him on Town Bridge."

"Police abandoned the pursuit because it was too dangerous and could only watch as he ploughed through a closed level crossing at King’s Dyke with a Cross Country train just seconds away."

    How did the anpr help?

It didn't stop him stealing the car
It didn't stop him evading capture
It didn't stop him putting peoples lives in danger
It didn't stop him abandoning the stolen car

After the incident a proper police investigation was able to match his dna. But that didnt even catch him.

It was at a later date when he was arrested for assault that a match was made with the dna.

So now you explain to me how anpr helped stopped him?
