It is an issue to me because it is an issue of equality and fairness.

Just because it does not affect you personally, you don't care, that seems a rather selfish attitude if you ask me.

Please can you tell us about what you've been doing to tackle this issue? Obviously it's something you care about, and you feel others are selfish for not doing anything about it, so it would be great to hear all about what you've been doing yourself :)

Because some people cannot travel due to disability, thus preventing their access to duty free goods the non-disabled enjoy.

Clear case of discrimination in my eyes, maybe not in your blinkered view obviously.
Didn't take you long to make a new AE...:rotfl:

Back to my original point - HMRC do not provide the opportunity to buy duty free goods, so they cannot be liable for you not having that opportunity!

You can only be liable for discrimination if you provide a good or service, or if you restrict access to that good or service. HMRC are doing neither!

I think it is best I keep that to myself at the moment.

That's a shame. I thought you wanted to have a discussion, seeing as you started one, but obviously not  As it is, I can't see that there's a genuine issue here so I'll leave you to it.

I don't think he'll be posting again, unless he starts another AE! ;)

The laws which says you much carry goods through customs yourself.

I take a disabled friend with me on trips to France and Belgium. His purchases go in the boot of the car. He's never been made to carry them through himself. They might want to look in the boot and ask who stuff belongs to. Coaches are different. They could be faced with a mountain of fags and booze with no way of knowing who it belongs to.

EU items are not duty free.

I'm not disabled, but I can't afford holidays as would have to pay someone to care for my mother whilst I'm away, which would double the cost.

Am I discriminated against for that?

What about after I'm no longer a carer and *just* a single parent? Still won't be able to afford holidays, how dare "they" withhold duty free from me?

    Some people.... *sigh*

is it discrimination that the pound shop is only accessible via 3 steps? (no ramp) and so disabled (physically) people cant fill their bags with rubbish? or is it a fact of life that regardless of laws, some places will always be inaccessible.

should concrete walkways be built across the Irish marshes so wheelchair bound people can go bog snorkelling?
should all shop displays be banned in case a blind person walks into one?

i cant believe the nit picking.

should i moan that i cant get suty free?

not because i'm unable to travel, but i cant afford to travel!!

so duty free is a double disriminator using your logic. against disabled and poor alike.
and Rools Royce. do they discriminate because only the super rich can afford their cars?

gods sake. focus on the positives!
