I don't think disabled people are being discriminated against with regard to this. This is because I don't believe it is an actual issue.

You obviously do though, so I'm interested to hear what you're doing about it? :)

I agree, and if I was disabled to the extent that I could not travel, I would not be wasting my time worrying about saving £5 on a bottle of vodka! :o
The issue is that the laws (customs) discriminate against the disabled hence your point is invalid.

But which law are you referring to? The DDA/ EA is irrelevant to something that happens in another country.
    Gone ... or have I?

Again, you are missing the issue - duty free 'shops' are not in the UK, and hence subject to different laws.

DMG are you disabled yourself such that you cannot travel?

If you were would you feel customs discriminated against you?

I am disabled, I can travel. If I couldn't, I wouldn't really care about the missed opportunity of duty free!

Why is it such a big issue to you? You do realise how few people actually benefit from duty free, don't you, and how small the overall savings are? What about those on a low income who cannot travel for financial reasons - is it discriminating against them as well? :rotfl:

They would not be applicable because they do not offer the discount or sell the goods!

It is an issue to me because it is an issue of equality and fairness.
The number of people being treated unfairly is irrelevant.
The cost of travel can be recovered from the saving made on duty free so it is a somewhat irrelevant point.

Just because it does not affect you personally, you don't care, that seems a rather selfish attitude if you ask me.

After-all most people are not disabled so why should they care about you in anyway shape or form?

Do you consider yourself to be a hypocrite?

Again you are twisting the issue we are talking about discrimination in all
it's forms. You can still discriminate against the disabled without selling anything, obviously so why persist with an invalid point?

No, I consider myself to be able to make an informed judgment, rather than taking on ridiculous crusades! I have stated that, even if I could not travel, I would not feel that this was an issue, as have two other disabled people on this thread.

Could you give an example of how the cost of travel would be recovered from duty free savings?

So how is HMRC limiting the amount that anyone can bring back from overseas discriminating against the disabled?

Because some people cannot travel due to disability, thus preventing their access to duty free goods the non-disabled enjoy.

Clear case of discrimination in my eyes, maybe not in your blinkered view obviously.
