What's so bad about Turkey ... at the minute ?

This is the FO advice to Australians which has a bit more info than ours does.
http://www.smartraveller.gov.au/zw-cgi/view/Advice/turkey
And here's the Australian FO advice to their people travelling to Italy:
http://www.smartraveller.gov.au/zw-cgi/view/Advice/italy
...and this only happened very recently:
http://www.globalpost.com/dispatch/france/101223/italy-anarchists-embassy-bombings-rome
So perhaps with every thread started by newbies to any country we should start our replies with FCO Travel Advice, and a few links to recent acts of civil unrest or terrorism?
No-one would ever visit the UK!!!0 -

At least the Hampshire rose is the right colour.
Grand place.
I spent my formative drinking years downing gallons of Mitchells in a small pub across from the cinema.
I wish I could remember its name.
I don't recall too many crooked carpet-floggers there either

But the OP specifically referred to the FO site, which was why I referenced it. I am not sure what your problem is with me answering the the question posed by the OP?
However, whatever it is is immaterial, the OP asked I answered, with relevant and asked for information.
You are quite correct in your summation, but the OP was after country specific info from the FO site.
I wouldn't have posted further, had you not laboured the point and asked for examples.:D0 -

Sounds like The Ring O'Bells opposite the Odeon.
No carpet floggers, but plenty of cotton and linoleum produced:)
Sadly those days are a very distant memory.0 -

The FCO link was relevant, but your subsequent comments were designed (imo) as mischief. Let's look at it another way, you have a passion for Italy (for example). A newbie to Italy starts a thread asking for a link to FCO Travel Advice, and you were the first to reply. In addition to posting the link would you also mention that 1000s of Libyan or Tunisian refugees might be let loose in the country, or that security had been increased in Rome following parcel bombs going off? No, of course you wouldn't!I wouldn't have posted further, had you not laboured the point and asked for examples.:D
Had you not posted in the first place, someone a bit less anti-Turkey would soon have posted the same link, and perhaps a few objective and helpful comments to reassure the OP that Turkey is a perfectly safe place for package tourism.
I'm sure people are either bored of this thread by now, or like Nobjocki having a good laugh.
So I leave the final word to you if you want it:D0 -

As you say, your opinion, which is, of course, wrong.;)PompeyPete wrote: »Had you not posted in the first place, someone a bit less anti-Turkey would soon have posted the same link, and perhaps a few objective and helpful comments to reassure the OP that Turkey is a perfectly safe place for package tourism.
I wouldn't say I was anti Turkey, but then I wasn't aware that even if that had been the case it was a hanging offence, or one that precluded someone posting on a thread about Turkey.
And you would consider yourself objective about Turkey would you?:T:T:T
And as for your comment about the last word....a useful tool that;) to try to dissuade someone from responding to unfounded criticism.0 -
i live in turkey's third largest city which isnt far from Bodrum and it is perfectly safe -much safer and friendlier than my home town of Bournemouth!!--now there is a risky place!mfw'11 No68- 55k mortgage İO--little to nothing saved! i must do better.0

Depends whether your words were designed to put unnecessary doubt into the mind of the readers (many) or not.And you would consider yourself objective about Turkey would you?:T:T:T
Absolutely. And as for your comment about the last word....a useful tool that;) to try to dissuade someone from responding to unfounded criticism.
Don't we always like the last word? I haven't noticed a post on this thread that's agreed with your initial comments yet (except Nobjocki!).0 -

Hang on there a minute soft Northern lad - I never said Turkey was dangerous, just that it had all the charm of an unflushed toilet.
There is a difference you know !:D0 -
