A1 destination, I just wish that tourists would get out and about a little more. Then again, I'm quite happy to keep all those secret, little visited wonders of Turkey, a vast and diverse country, to our select band of adventurers!
Poet123, I suppose you'll advise against travel to UK after the recent demonstrations in London!!
Where have I advised against travel? I merely quoted the FO advice and commented on the fact that tourist destinations in Turkey have been targetted in the past.
The fact that (as you know;)) I don't like certain parts of Turkey, does not mean I would advise others against travelling there for safety reasons. For some reasons it appears to irk you that I don't share your opinion of Turkey.;) I do like Kalkan however.0 -

Yeah I know, put off a wonderful country by a few carpet traders:rotfl::rotfl:;)
Here's the FCO travel Advice for Italy...

...I don't suppose you'll post it every time someone asks for a bit of advice on Venice!! I've just noticed a current thread on Mexico, hurry up with the FCO travel advice before it's too late!!!
These days travel to practically any country in the world poses some sort of risk, and anywhere in the world you can be in the wrong place at the wrong time. Bit like getting mown down outside your own house by a drunk driver! Sxit happens!!0 -
Are foreigners being advised not to come to the Uk after the trouble that seems to be occurring at the moment, Young girl murdered in Derbyshire in the countryside, young Girl murdered after leaving a nightclub by a taxi driver (should all tourists avoid taxis, and us come to that), young girl stabbed at school, threats being made to disrupt the Royal Wedding. How many foreigners are reading these headlines abroad and thinking we're not going there its too dangerous!!0

If an OP had said they had been told that there was a govt site giving travel advice re issues travelling to Italy, then yes, I would have posted the link. You have read the OP?
"OH said she looked on some govt site (recommended by Thomas Cook) and it said "only travel if it's an emergency".
Now do you see why I posted the link? It is really not that dificult to understand.
I also agree with your last paragraph, but then I suspect the OP already knows that, as do most people, it being an oft repeated phrase.
Do try not to project your own issues onto other poters, posters who are quite entitled to have a different view about a country than you have, and to express that view.:D0 -

There has been a lot of civil unrest recently in Turkey. Tourist areas seem unaffected but in the past there have been incidents in those kinds of areas.
Hello again, reference your last posting.
No problem at all with you posting the FCO Travel Advice link, as that's what the OP asked for.
However your comments are a different matter.
A lot of civil unrest in Turkey?
Where and when that might have involved a package tourist?
We live in a crazy world, as you've agreed, tourists are, have been, and will continue to be easy targets anywhere in the world. So why say what you've said to the OP who is only going a bog-standard AI holiday like millions of folk do all the time. He's already a little nervous, why frighten him?
As for Nobjocki's comments, well the name says it all.0 -

You obviously feel quite at home among the Turkish men coming from a fine naval town like Portsmouth.;)0 -

The OP is an adult, there is unrest in Turkey, it is current, google it if you are unaware of the tensions between the various factions.
I said it was not in the beach resort tourist areas, but in recent years Marmaris had a bomb explode killing tourists, and if memory serves, around 6 years ago Bodrum was targetted.

This is the FO advice to Australians which has a bit more info than ours does.

As you say, it can happen anywhere, as presumably the OP knows....but he was asking specifically about Turkey, and so he got his answer.
I can't see why you have an issue with that.0 -
OP, the Bodrum pensinsula is beautiful. I have friends living there and they haven't come across any trouble in that area. On the occasions you do hear of things happening it is usually some disagreement between local families.
Also, despite some of the above comments, in general the Turkish people are very friendly and helpful. Yes you will always get the occasional bloke who tries it on - but you get that anywhere. My friend is married to a Turkish man and I have met a number of their friends of all nationalities, including Turkish. Without exception they have always treated me with respect.
Have a wonderful time!
DaisyI'm a retired employment solicitor. Hopefully some of my comments might be useful, but they are only my opinion and not intended as legal advice.0
