What's so bad about Turkey ... at the minute ?

Hi all,
Haven't been following the news much recently - but know about all the stuff in Libya, northern Africa, etc.
Anyway we are due to go all inclusive to Turkey for a week in at the end of May and the OH said she looked on some govt site (recommended by Thomas Cook) and it said "only travel if it's an emergency".
Now, have I missed something major ... why would you not want to go there at the moment ?
TIA for any help.
Regards,
Adam Brunt

There has been a lot of civil unrest recently in Turkey. Tourist areas seem unaffected but in the past there have been incidents in those kinds of areas.0 -
May have skimmed it - mainly the south-east and parts of Istanbul:
Full info here http://www.fco.gov.uk/en/travel-and-living-abroad/travel-advice-by-country/europe/turkeyWe advise against all but essential travel in the provinces of Hakkari, Sirnak, Siirt and Tunceli and visitors should remain vigilant when travelling in other provinces in south eastern Turkey.0 -
Adam you'll be perfectly fine in any tourist area in Turkey - its not unusual for there to be travel cautions for some areas of Turkey, but its usually nowhere near any tourist resorts.0

Ah ok. Will have to track down where we are going now.
We are going to Kadikalesi on the Bodrum Peninsula.0 -
lovely
- and about 1,000 miles (literally) from the areas of potential unrest in Turkey. 0 -
DD came back from Istanbul last week following a school art trip, no problems - loved the place0

Have a wonderful and care free holiday.0

Don't worry there are no problems in Turkey at the moment, not the touristy parts anyway. The Bodrum Peninsula is lovely, I used to live there :-)0

No problems on the west coast of Turkey, just such a shame the brit chavs love it, but there are also some lovely places on the west coast arond Turunc, Kalkan etc which Tom Cook and the drunks don't know about. Avoid Marmaris and Bodrum, or try Blackpool and Skeggie similar nightlife and it will save on the airfare.0

Yep, the only unrest that the average tourist is likely to suffer in Turkey is unrest in the tummy through eating too much good food or supping copious amounts of Efes.
A1 destination, I just wish that tourists would get out and about a little more. Then again, I'm quite happy to keep all those secret, little visited wonders of Turkey, a vast and diverse country, to our select band of adventurers!
Poet123, I suppose you'll advise against travel to UK after the recent demonstrations in London!!0
