Sorry if this has been asked/answered somewhere else but I was wondering what the rules are for twitter competitions.
I am new to this and I have followed several competitions on twitter, most of which you have to retweet a message to enter. With all of the competitions the message to retweet comes up several times a day and I was wondering if I should be retweeting each time to be in with a better chance of winning or if you only need to do it once.
I don't want to be filling up my friends twitter feeds with loads of retweets if its not going to give me a better chance of winning.0 -
Is anyone else using IE9 and finding that 'enter' fails to show when button has been pressed?
Worked fine using IE8.
Have posted in techie section, but so far no-one has come up with an answer.0 -
Is anybody having trouble connecting to the pickme up competitions?
I can access every other part of the magazine but as soon as I click comps the page just keeps trying to load and nothing happens:(Thanks to all comp posters:ADo not take life too seriously; you will never get out of it alive0 -
I've actually just finished entering them about 10min ago so all ok for me.Thank you all who post.0

quick question are you more likely to win if you comment on the comp as it seems facebook and other sites get flooded with comment saying how much they want to win (10%+ giving sob stories) so does this help you win0

Great question, one I've been meaning to ask in here for ages.
There are so many "this would be great for me because..." or "my....would love this" comments, I wonder whether people do it because they like commenting or because they think it it increases their chances. The other one I don't understand is why people are so keen to tell the companies that they have "shared with all my friends". I know there are MSE people that do this so it would be great to have an insight, just out of curiosity.
I'd hope that most competitions that are supposed to be a random draw are exactly that, but it would be interesting to know if "sucking up", as it were, does make any difference.0 -

Quite a few comps ask you to like & share to be entered, but I'm not sure how they'd know you've shared to be honest . (Unless you tag too.) Hopefully they'll believe us when we tell 'em:rotfl:
Others ask you to like, comment & share, others just like... Who knows whether they do a true random draw, or favour more regular contributors....
As for sucking up, if that's what it takes to win, LOL :rotfl:
Tho' I'm not prepared to beg or bare my soul for the sake of a bookmark or whatever - for the same reason I don't do votes / most likes / most friends saying your name onesWorse things will have happened in the world today..."The only thing that really matters, it to love and to be loved."0 -
Good questions twotimes & atarisrocks.
This side of facebook comping really gets on my last nerve.
Yes some do ask you to like and share, so I see no problem with tagging your status or commenting on the original comp post to say you have done so.
However it's when the company ask that you comment on the post but people feel the need to spam their wall instead. I think they have an idea it will get them noticed more. Or when a company only asks for a comment but many have to start the sucking up by posting they have tweeted etc and shared with so many friends it just makes me grrr how far some people are prepared to go for very often a little prize.
And twitter sucking up? Don't even get me started on that, it's amazing how many ppl give #FF or #Followfriday to a company running a comp on that day. Oh well horses for courses I guess...personally I wouldn't like to be seen to be so desperate:coffee:0 -
Hi,
I thought I'd share my opinion here x I started 'sucking up' more during the past month of May - ie sharing on twitter and FB and subscribing to their newsletters etc. Although it is more time consuming and my mail box get cluttered every day, I have won more since doing this: So last month in May I won 52 prizes!!! April I won 27, March I won 14. February I won 17 and January (when I just started I won 4) So as you can see I have doubled my amount of wins just by sharing in one month!
I have also found that companies tweet or message me back to thank me for sharing their comp which shows they aknowledge entrants sharing xx
This month - may I add - i have won 8 times in 5 days!
I dont enter any voting comps on FB or vote for friends either and I have cut right down on entering Twitter comps as I was never winning. In fact I am also considering cutting down on FB comps too - as the chances of winning are so small - ie I just looked at one just now - offering a prize to one fan when they reach 1500 likes - so basically your chances are 1 in 1500 of winning!!! I have also noticed that many of the prizes are crappy too - even the Estee Lauder 8 hour cream daily draw - I won and the size of the prize is minute compared to the picture on the entry page! I also won a beauty 'beauty kit' on FB which turned out to be a trial sample of cleaners, night cream and day cream (each tube lasted 2 days!!!!). At times like that - I think why put in all the effort!!!
Thanks xxx0 -
I also get a bit annoyed with blog comps. Some bloggers ask the earth of their entrants - with some asking for as many as 5-8 compulsory steps ef - follow their blog, like their page on FB, share on FB, follow them on twitter, tweet, and then do all the same for the company who donated the prize, then for extra entries leave comments on posts throughout their blog and then go back and tell them which ones you have left them on!!! I am entering les and less blog comps too - o all in all - I would just like to stick to MSE comps and twitter, FB and blog comps annoy me!0
