    Hiya,

I'm a lurker on this thread but just wanted to say a very big thank you for all of your posts. There is such a wealth of knowledge here and it's good to know that though times are tough, we're not alone and we all will get through this.

Sammy-Kaye - huge congratulations on the house :)

well I made my first offering from my free Hummingbird Cake book - cinammon and raisin loaf - very yummy.

I'd read the thread about raisins and sultanas rocketing in price to 99p per 500g bag so I really grudged buying a bag in Asda but they scanned at 64p (even though they were 99p on the SEL) so I'll be going back tomorrow for some more before they notice.

At the rate dried fruit is going up I might not be making a cake this Christmas. It's a sorry state of affairs when I start to even think that way:eek:

Evening all..just bobbing in to say hi and thrilled to bits for sammy!!
My laptop needs a repair and is out of action at the moment so I am trying to catch up on my dd's newly repaired netbook which is tiny...I think someone is trying to tell me I spend too much time online and get a real life!. (Not happy that its going to cost another £60 either :( )
Just wish I knew where to start...what does a 37 yr old woman with 3 kids and 2 jobs do to acheive that these days? . It feels like an impossible task to make new friends at my age when everyone around seems so settled! I often wonder how many other people are sat at home feeling just the same but not knowing where to start either? Thank goodness I have you lot to keep me just about sane ;)
Love the candle idea and as I have just stocked up on ikea scented tea lights I will think of you all when I light one.

I agree on all previous posts on the great power of healing and comfort candles can provide.Often I find them good company if I am feeling low or lonely. It might sound odd,but I find the flame a living presence and its steadiness comforting and warm.It calms me and I can often just sit quietly and give thanks for the kindness and love of family and friends and offer a wish for comfort to somebody from me who would like to receive it.It can be a very spiritual experience just sitting by a candle sometimes, refreshes the soul.

I was in a similar position when I was 37 and was left to bring up three young children by myself. It does depend how old your children are and whether you can get even a few hours a week to yourself to do something just for you. Adult education classes are a good place to meet people. I met my current best friend at a writing class, so we already had a common interest before we knew each other. If you have a passion for anything from lop eared rabbits to politics, you may find like minded souls locally who gather to discuss their hobby and maybe have an occasional social function to raise funds. Sometimes the socials are family-friendly gatherings. If you can't arrange some time alone, maybe you could help out occasionally at any groups your children belong to, like Brownies and Cubs. When you're feeling like you are carrying the weight of the world with all the responsibility you shoulder, having an interest outside the home which is nothing to do with work can be a life saver.

Sometimes my timing is just off. I'm coming to England in a fortnight. But right now my friend is over there in hospital and isn't expected to last much longer. She no longer recognises or acknowledges people, and is in organ failure, so it's just a matter of time.

I inquired how much to change my flight, and with that, the travel insurance and the train I'd be looking in the region of $600 (about 400 quid), which we certainly don't have spare. I could find it, but don't feel I can justify it given that she wouldn't even know I'd been.

Wondering now how long she'll hold on, and if I'll be back in time for the funeral.

Most of my friends from England are at least twice my age, and one by one this has happened. This is that part that sucks about emigrating.

    Thats a nice one Mardatha.

Well - I put up a virtual candle for us all - and am not quite sure how to find it again. (Think maybe it wont "light up" until 16 minutes after I put it up???).

So the details I put (if anyone else can find it - maybe in 16 minutes time?):

    WORDS OF DEDICATION
Old Style Moneysavers - that our problems may be solved

    INITIAL YOUR CANDLE
    Ceri

    CANDLEGROUP - GROUP INITIAL
OSMSE (for Old Style Money Saving Expert)

    LOCATION
GB - United Kingdom (errr...I know some of us are abroad - but I had to select a country - so I chose the one most of us are in)

    CANDLE SIGNED WITH NAME
    Old Style Moneysavers

    **************************

The candles on the site stay "lit" for 48 hours.

So - IF I've got this worked out right - that would seem to mean it will be "lit" as from 0640 today to 0640 Wednesday (using British time).

If anyone finds it once its due up - then a link would be good - if thats possible.:)
