Its okay - I "get" your humour as you know GreyQueen.....
...but there would be a slight practical difficulty anyways - ie actually FINDING a virgin these days...:rotfl:
You know - I think my mothers generation "had life easy" at dealing with the opposite sex. They could just take the stance "You aint having it - until we're married" and thats what my mother duly did - as she put it "I was ENTITLED to get married in white":rotfl:. In her era - so would I have been.
In my "day and age" it would actually have been a blessing to have the same rule there in place in some respects - "Good girls dont - therefore I dont...end of....". Pity help young girls these days with the level of "pressure" they are under...:(0 -
Good morning all,
Just want to repeat what others have said. This is a really helpful, supportive thread. It also has a vast collective memory / knowledge of useful tips from how to clean your washing machine to recipes for herbal teas to how to deter moles in your kitchen garden/ lottie.
GQ hope the great watering can in the sky is hovering over you and tipping. There seemed to be one following me around on and off yesterday - travelled 50 miles north and had to use wipers most of the way there.
Looking grey and cloudy again today. Will do the wash and put it out and then watch like a hawk!!
Good days all, SilverOutside of a dog, a book is man's best friend. Inside of a dog it's too dark to read.

Thanks for the warm welcome everyone! So our first gas bill in the bleak mid-winter was £305....for a quarter!! Despite thinking I was being good and turning the heating/fire off much more during the 2nd quarter, it was around £150. We have fleece blankets, so I've taken to wrapping up in them and wearing more clothes! I hear my mother saying "don't put the heating on get your dressing gown on" and thought how hard done to I was...no wonder!
Try to charge our phones and ipods from the car or computer to save electricity too. All small things add up...
I'm not very good with leftovers, so maybe need to get onto the old-style thread to see what ideas they have as food bills need to reduce too!0 -
sammy could you contribute to one of the adopt an animal charities for Ben? He would get regular literature to make him feel part of it.0

It's true you do feel the cold a bit more if you lose a bit of weight but it's much easier to be more active and that really tweaks up the internal thermostat - you feel warmer even when you're not moving
But have you noticed? - the young girls who go out on a Friday night in the middle of winter wearing practically nothing are always the ones to complain bitterly about the office being cold - even when it's sweltering and airless! Mind you, I suppose the amount of vodka they put away (judging by what I see in the Market Square of our local town) must keep them warmIt doesn't matter if you are a glass half full or half empty sort of person. Keep it topped up! Cheers!0 -

My thoughts exactly - membership of something like WWF or sponsoring an animal might be the answer0 -
sammy_kaye a small wildlife park-zoo kind of place in my part of UK (nowhere near you tho) had a thing where your could be a zoo-keeper for a day (for a price) or buy a gift voucher for the same.
I'm wondering if there's anything within reach of your home that might offer something similar which would be suitable for your Ben? It's the kind of experience he'd remember for a lifetime. Maybe there'd be something on the relevent websites of any zoo etc out your way?
It might be possible to make an informal approach to some kind of animal rescue place to see if they could offer him some "hands-on" experience, maybe dangle the concept of a donation to the cause as an incentive? Lots of people are parents and soft for other people's kids and willing to go the extra mile to help a keen kid.
Otherwise, the suggestions about joining an organisation/ sponsoring an animal are all excellent. HTH.
Every increased possession loads us with a new weariness.

That was also what I had in mind. Also some zoos encourage sponsoring animals I think and if you have one localish it might be possible to do that and visit said animal.Outside of a dog, a book is man's best friend. Inside of a dog it's too dark to read.

Apparently you need a licence to watch live TV even on a mobile phone. I suppose they are covered by the home licence - if you have one.
I reckon a good deal of the licence money goes on the BBC's behemoth of a web site. The latest addition is the Domesday Reloaded project, which was an expensive flop in the past and looking at it today, having been painstakingly turned into yet more BBC web pages, I can see why. It's worth a peep if you want to go down memory lane, but don't expect to find much there.0
