Maybe he's just a little stressed too, and is taking it out on me. But even if so, I'm still not impressed. I feel badly let down. It's times like this I question the point of this relationship. I should know better than to rely on anyone else anyway.

Anyway ignore me I'm just in a bad mood.

Looks like it will rain on St Swithin's Day, too. Rats.

    Have some *HUGS*.
And I'm not ignoring you in your bad mood, because people here don't ignore me when I'm in one :o.

I really thought your work would be more grovelly all things considered. Sorry to hear they're still being poopy pants (that's an expression I've adopted from my MIL, and it's ok even in polite company).

Larumbelle, what does the union say? It seems very unfair that you should only get SSP for the period you wanted to work and were available. What does your contract say? Seems to me they should treat it like gardening leave ie you stayed away on their instructions so you were still fulfilling the terms of your contract
It doesn't matter if you are a glass half full or half empty sort of person. Keep it topped up! Cheers!

Just had my PC debugged and OH"s lappy repaired by Dd's friend, excellent rates and it left here at 5pm and was returned fixed at 9.30 this morning, am happy now as OH can work upstairs and I get the Pc all to myself - and No bugs :j

I have peas and tomatoes ready to pick!!! Not a huge amount but feel less fed up about it all now. I sprinkled a pack of beetroot seeds in a huge planter and they are peeping through, also planted a lot of chard or kale (can't remember which :) ) and they are through too!

Sorry to hear your trip wore you out Mardatha, and sending healing vibes to your Ds, hope he feels as if things are improving soon.

Next experiment coming up - I bought the watermelon specially so that I could try out a watermelon rind recipe or two.

Has anyone else concocted anything from watermelon rind?

I have a recipe for watermelon rind and lime pickle which is good with "Indian type meals". I could post it if you think it may be something you would use?

I`ll have to back peddle to catch up, in the meantime two preerving links

I have used this site a lot. It is A1 for value and speed
    http://www.jamjarshop.com/

and the book on this next link is just right for me. It was first written in 1929 and was reprinted in 1989 and is more os than most. It sticks with basic simple ingredients and tried and trusted preservation from the days when freezers weren`t really commonplace. I have it next to me now and this is the one that I would keep if I had to choose. The writing is big and clear, black and white and no pictures. It is quite a big book and imo is very good value for money

Last night I ordered myself a stainless steel food mill and tbh good quality food mills are a bit hard to find these days. I want to be able to process and sieve my tomatoes without too much faff and I don`t want them blended. I am planning on making tomato sauce with texture. That book above gives some good bottling recipes for tomatoes and I am thinking I will go down the brine route as it`s all about keeping the tomatoes all through winter. I think I`ll be bottling, making sauce and dehydrating. I was going to dehydrate and use oil but people have had failures that way so I`m not risking it

Re the tomato plants: I have cut off all bar 2 or 3 leaves, on those that have a lot of fruit. It is making the fruit grow rather than the leaves

I`m going back to read all the posts, later after lunch as I have some scurrying around to do before the rain

Larumbelle, your workplace should have an absence policy. Phone your HR department or even better e-mail so you have a copy.

God I'm knackered. Yes greyqueen, I agree that ME is a bloody horrrible illness
Tired after yesterday's day out, went through to pull out freezer and give it a wipe. Freezer wouldn't budge. Stuck solid under worktop. Had to phone joiner son to come and nearly dismantle the whole bloody end of the kitchen to get it out
But the lady came and was happy. Now the other one and then I can relax.
The freezer has left a cubby hole behind the back door, and I need to work out how to tidy that up. I want to keep veg and shoes and a bin in there.
Have loads of baby turnip and baby leeks I need to thin out and the urge to cook has totally died. Not that it fought very hard to survive anyway :D

Kittie, I had that book in my basket, went to checkout and backpedalled when I realised P & P charges were on. Will think about it.

Mardatha, can't you just chuck baby leeks and parsnips in a roasting tin. Not too much "cooking" in that.

And I still have only green tomatoes and not too many of them. Am also cutting leaves off to encourage them.

Very P****d off with Debenhams. Ordered the bargain stockpot from them at the beginning of the week and had a confirmation email then a despatch email. Still no sign of the delivery today so I try to track it, no success so I call them.
I get what sounded like a stroppy teenager who tells me she can't find the order either - long silence then she finally says "do you want me to try and find out where it is?"
I resisted the temptation to make any kind of smart remark and say yes, off she goes. When she comes back from Outer Mongolia (she was gone a while) she announces the parcel didn't leave them. "why?" I ask - another long silence and then again "do you want me to try and find out?" - Jeez, it's like pulling teeth:mad:
In response to my "yes", she disappears again only to finally come back and say, in a vey accusatory tone "it's because you ordered something we don't have any of" - what the?????? Obviously they have run out of stock but the system lets you order, confirms order and despatch and then does naff all. I had a bit of a rant, doubtless a waste of time as she was clueless and couln't even tell me if my credit card had been refunded. I really can't be bothered with yet another complaint so I'll put that one down to experience and strike debenhams from my list - no more!

On the MS front - Asda had quite a few whoopsied things this morning - I bought 2 big avocados for 55p each and 2 cream scones as a treat (65p). There were lots of others however nothing I needed so I resisted. They had happy eggs at £1 for 6 however there is a lady about a mile from me who sells eggs at her door (provided she has them) so I'll try her first. Her's are also £1 for 6 but I'd rather give the money directly to her because I know exactly where the eggs have come from. In fact usually the hens are staring at me from the field next to her house which amuses me as I cart the eggs back to the car.

Was a glorious morning here, glad I put my washing out at 6am as we've now had a few showers and I'm about to make some cup cakes (new dulche de leche version) and do the ironing rather than some outdoor painting which was my plan. If it's still dry after dinner tonight I'll paint a little.

No more tomatoes yet but my lettuce are growing merrily - it's not all bad news:)

:) ooofff, am I tired or am I tired. Been flying a wicket with an endless stream of people coming in homeless. The capacity of our advice service hit the wall about 1.30 pm when 3 homeless families, each with multiples of very young children, landed at once. Gonna be a struggle to get them under a roof tonight. Makes you count your blessings, eh?

I just wish I could sit some of those numpties from the government down alongside me to see what is really happening in this septic isle.

Rant over, I have tea and a scone and will rally shortly to hit the Magic Greengrocer and then hie me from there up to the lottie to start picking peas and beans. I'm just an OS simple-minded version of Birdeye, really. Just hope the rain holds off, going a bit dark outside at the moment.

scottishminnie those teens must be grown in vats and distributed across the country; I encounter them too. So often, it feels like real life has turned into one of the Monty Python sketches......:rotfl:

Will see if I can get to see the new Harry Potter this weekend with a mate, assuming the motion picture houses of ole Provincial City are not mobbed to pieces. It'll be my wee treat- and so low-calorie!
