Ceridwen - it's one of those "you needed to have seen it from day one things"

. No doubt the first part will be repeated/on i- player and I heartily recommend it - not least for the recipe for "patatas bravas"

I can't watch it over here unfortunately, but wondering if you could be so kind as to send a recipe?

I seem to have a large supply of cheap potatoes at the moment. It's funny here, some months you end up with a lot of all one thing reduced, I've also had a pumpkin month and a cabbage month. I prefer the potato month odor wise.

We were up in Edinburgh today for a day oot. But it was too hot and too sunny and too full of tourists and we were too knackered. So we came home early and slumped on the couch. :)
My older son got his second foot op yesterday and isnt too good. Different from the last one, which was ok. This time the anaesthetic has knocked him sideways and he feels like he's got flu. Plus his foot is scalding pain. Please send nice vibes for him :)

Recently had a major op on my right leg and I felt grotty for ages after, so I know how he feels. Does it help elevating his foot? That helped me a lot with the pain.

  • Good morning

Hope your son's leg feels better soon Mardatha: I'd have put the kettle on if I'd known you were coming in to town yesterday..

Well you lot have finally got to me! I was up before the lark this morning and instead of lolling around catching up on the i-player I found myself in the kitchen slicing some past-their-best potatoes into wedges to freeze before they became completely un-usable.

    I think I need a lie down;)

    Have a good day all.

Thanks for all good wishes. I was up at 6am because the RV was throwing stuff about in the kitchen  Says he was trying to hit a fly (we hate flies, totally paranoid about them) but he sounded more like he was wrestling a crocodile..
I put a freezer and dehumidifier on Gumtree and they both sold right away- ladies coming today to collect them. This is the freezer that I bought on Gumtree a few months ago because I was from that moment onwards going to be this amazing efficient woman who batch cooked tons of food and froze it all in neat wee bags all labelled...
    :D:D
So the money will go to something else I want more .

7 week wonder - glad to hear it re the freezing.

Didnt know one could freeze raw potato wedges??

But I am certainly finding that when I've bought fruit that I can see isnt going to last that long that the way not to waste any of it is to chunk it up and put in bags in the freezer. Currently got watermelon and pineapple in there that way.

Next experiment coming up - I bought the watermelon specially so that I could try out a watermelon rind recipe or two.

Has anyone else concocted anything from watermelon rind? (I found an American website specially for recipes with this - but a lot of the recipes are too American in style for my tastes...). Am planning on doing a "slush puppy" style drink - that would be okay - and thinking about trying a rind and feta cheese salad maybe..

Potatoes need to be blanched before freezing or they will go black.

I've been off for a few days and there's LOADS to catch up on; I found the chat about growing veg in the front garden very interesting as although we have a veg plot at the side, which is doing quite well, I'd really like to grow a bit more food.
We are on a corner plot, the path to the front door goes up the middle of the garden, and on the non-corner side (IYSWIM) there is about 6m x 6m surrounded by 2m high hedging. Like the rest of the garden, it had been completely neglected for years before we moved in last June, so we've just trimmed the hedges and mowed the green stuff (to describe it as a 'lawn' would be stretching things a bit!) It gets sun for most of the afternoon and I thought I might use it for something useful. A friend gave me a copy of Alys Fowler's 'The Edible Garden' which is a mixture of flowers and food and I thought I might give it a go. All ideas welcome!
