I got a 500gm pot of anchovies in oil from the deli at Mr T for 2.00 and as much as I love them Im not going to eat them all in the next couple of days. I suspect they won't keep long as theyve been hanging about in the deli for a couple of days so do you think I could freeze them?? I hate to waste any and with no chickens anymore I cant even feed them with them
i think the last lot of anchovies in oil i had lasted for about 6 months or so,Nonny mouse and Proud!!

Ginnyknit don't see why they wouldn't freeze - perhaps separate them into portions the size you would normally use? Freeze one very small portion overnight, defrost tomorrow and see what it's like?"Life is not about waiting for the storm to pass...it's about learning how to dance in the rain." ~ Vivian Greene0

Thank you for that. I am hoping for one more lot of elderflower champagne but after that, I think all the elderflowers around here will have gone. I've seen a recipe for nettle beer that did not require a demi john, but think the nettles are too old for that. I want another recipe for something else that is as easy as elderflower champagne...0

Thanks guys for the advice re - anchovies, I was a little worried as last time they seemed to go a bit funny after a week or so. I will try freezing some tonight and defrost tomorrow - why didnt I think of that - I have nothing to lose that way.
I always re-use greaseproof if it looks ok, seems an awful waste to throw it away and the last roll I got was amazing quality so I want to make it last!
Ahh well another O/S day done and dusted - ginger cake just came out of the BM, whoopsied salsa, hm potato salad went with tea, and finished crochetting Dgs's snake and it looks brilliant. All in all Im a satisfied O/S'er tonight. Hope everyone here has a peaceful night hugs from meClearing the junk to travel light

Mornings all. Had a nice day today with MIL and GMIL, went to a local fashion show. It was a moneysaving day too since there was nothing there I could afford, and the $5 ticket included a couple of glasses of champagne, sandwiches, cakes and coffee! I spent up big in a charity shop with a pair of yoga/dance pants for $7 (about 4.50 GBP), but came good at the expensive grocers with a tray of cherries, kilo of apples, half a pineapple and a couple of mandarins for $4.
Also a gift card has arrived for one of the survey sites I do (surprisingly quickly this time), and it's a prepaid $50 visa card. So, I'm thinking to splash out and buy some meat with it. Perhaps even a roast. And some sausages.
Hope you're all as lucky as I feel todaySoftstuff- Officially better than 0070 -

Greyqueen I hate clothes shopping too and worst of all is shoe shopping. I like shoes but have quite broad and very soft feet so getting the right combination of fit and comfort is very difficult. When I am finally forced to buy new ones I hunt until I get them exactly right then buy 2 pairs to put off having to do it again too soon :rotfl:Ooohh, Lizzyb1812, I am so getting where you come from with this one. I'm a lanky happorth with long thin feet with long thin toes and I have always had the most horrendous time buying shoes. I was a good kid and love Mum but we'd have our worst-ever times in shoe shops, back in the day. Mum was always very strict with us kids and shoes; clothes could be second hand or from the catalogue book but shoes had to be bought in person, properly measured-up for, leather uppers, Clarks if she could stretch to it. Can you imagine us back in the 1970s with the ghastly footwear they had then? And no, I wasn't allowed that pair of platforms........;)
And, to add to my joys, I'm having to go back to the Biomechanics clinic to see my podiatrist to get some orthotics made. He reckons the meds which have been keeping me alive for the past 15 years have softened the tendons in my feet so that my "third array" is all wonky. I quite like having a Third Array; makes me sound like telescopes at Jodrell Bank; "Sir! There's a problem with the third array in the GQ quandrant, they're not responding to instructions!"
Boringly, the third array is podiatrist-speak for your two smallest toes and the bones and tendons down the side of the foot which work them. And mine hurt.:(
 So, then armed with orthotics, heaven help me, I can shop for my next pair of shoes. Those of you in Scotland will probably be able to hear the screams of frustration all the way up there.
Thanks for all the tips about trousers, I can see I have to get my aspidistra in gear and hunt them down. However, I did find a charity shop yesterday and bought a wrap dress (first ever; looks great, who woulda thunk it?). I saw them rack it and nabbed it immediately; it's from East whose stuff I covet but cannot afford. And the wicked wicked gal on the till innocently told me they get a lot of East stuff donated and it's on the way between home and the office.....oooooooohhhhhhh!Every increased possession loads us with a new weariness.

Don't let the thought of orthotics alarm you (though shoe-shopping in general you can scream about!) I've had orthotics for about 5 years now and I find it means I can actually wear nicer shoes than before. Without orthotics ballet-pump style shoes were a no-no (feet kept collapsing outwards), but now I can wear them no problem: which at 6 feet tall is a good thing!
Today's main task is to make a batch of twinks to take to work to celebrate the fact that I've finished the first draft of my thesis:T Still plenty of work to be done, but it's a land-mark nevertheless.0 -
Gq having a third array sounds distinctly star trek, :rotfl:0

Unixgirluk, yes its just the hem off the jacket, would look quite good if I bind the edges - I am off to my craft room to try it tonight! I was pondering last night what to do with OH's spare duvet (single) as its lying around in the way and annoying me so found a big sample piece of tapestry fabric and am making it into a floor cushion, that way Dgs - who is much better today) can use it until I need to swap OH's quilt! Sadly I was rushing and broke the needle on my ancient Singer so am off to forage in the house for my spares. I also put baby lotion in OH's bath which made a bloomin mess so had to scrub out the bath and start again, thats why I wasnt concentrating on sewing the cushion
.
Let us know how you get on.
I'm forever using dye on things, sewing ribbon on etc (the loops of ribbon in tops are amazing, I've even used them as emergency shoe laces!).CC2 = £8687.86 ([STRIKE]£10000[/STRIKE] )CC1 = £0 ([STRIKE]£9983[/STRIKE] ); Reusing shopping bags savings =£5.80 vs spent £1.05.Wine is like opera.
