The 'Squirrel Tail Soup' recipe says that 'the tail, which is put aside after skinning, can be used with haricot beans, onions and herbs in making a delicious soup'. Let us know how it goesWe won't be trying either.

Errr...nor me actually - as I'm vegetarian - my stomach turns at the thought of even eating the type of meat I was brought up on (ie the standard stuff of chicken/bacon/mince/etc) and...as for liver...._pale_. Nope...I've just enjoyed some leftover veggie frittata with spicy potato wedges from yesterday:D.
GREYQUEEN
Thats reassuring to know that its just the chocolate ban alone thats having an effect - I shall have to look up calories in Aero bars as compared to glasses of wine...
It is frustrating when weight comes off slowly - have done it before and have got to do it again <sigh> but the most realistic diets tell people to only aim for 1-2 lbs weight loss per week - so I'm guessing that cutting out "that one thing" probably means a weight loss not far short of equating to the 1lb per week end of that figure. I like my food too and am forever experimenting with new recipes and new types of food (I'll try pretty much anything - as long as its vegetarian and at least not too unhealthy).
I make that approx 650 calories of chocolate you were having per day - equates to approx 4 glasses of wine at a guess??0 -
GQ, Tesco's Florence & Fred work wear stuff occasionally comes in "long" too, its 33".0

Ceridwen a standard glass of wine - 125ml or 1/6 of a bottle - has about 100 calories - could be plus or minus 20. So your 4 glasses are a better bet caloriewise than the Aero. But home poured glasses tend to be a leetle bit bigger so adjust the 100 calories accordingly
Greyqueen I hate clothes shopping too and worst of all is shoe shopping. I like shoes but have quite broad and very soft feet so getting the right combination of fit and comfort is very difficult. When I am finally forced to buy new ones I hunt until I get them exactly right then buy 2 pairs to put off having to do it again too soon :rotfl:"Life is not about waiting for the storm to pass...it's about learning how to dance in the rain." ~ Vivian Greene0 -
Thanks.
Get where you're coming from re the wine - the size of my glasses is Old Style size (ie 125ml). I got fed-up with breaking glasses with stems some while back and found a pack of 12 small tumbler size ones in a Pound Shop and have never broken any of them. One of my few successful buys from there:D.
The strength of wine these days is something I know I've complained about before - ie I seem to recall it used to be 8%/9%. These days - as a lot of people are drinking to get drunk:cool::eek: - as opposed to just enjoying a glass or two and/or an evening out of itself then the strength of wine has increased in recent years to enable them to get drunk sooner:mad::(. I also read recently that some wines are even stronger than they are labelled as being - it took a long while for that penny to drop (ie that it wasnt just "one of those things" if the exact same amount of wine at the exact same stated strength produced an unexpected "I've had too much" reaction...).
Net result - i'm not sure whether the calorie count of wine has been updated in all these tables to allow for the fact that wine sold these days is "stronger than normal" (and, presumably, more calorific with it....). Think I read somewhere that the way the makers hep up the strength to what it should be is to deliberately add more sugar than necessary???
So - if theres no calorie difference to what wine used to be - then that would make 200-300 surplus calories I have in an evening where I've decided to have wine with dinner then..0 -
I used to use a figure of 85 calories but have found higher counts recently so I'm guessing the higher 100 is due to the higher alcohol level."Life is not about waiting for the storm to pass...it's about learning how to dance in the rain." ~ Vivian Greene0

I got a 500gm pot of anchovies in oil from the deli at Mr T for 2.00 and as much as I love them Im not going to eat them all in the next couple of days. I suspect they won't keep long as theyve been hanging about in the deli for a couple of days so do you think I could freeze them?? I hate to waste any and with no chickens anymore I cant even feed them with themClearing the junk to travel light

You can freeze other fish, and some frozen pizzas have anchovies on, so can't see why not.0
