Co-op selling 4 tins baked beans in a pack for £1 this week-have been stocking up.Sometimes make cheap soup with 1tin tomatoes,1 tin beans, seasoning and 250ml or so stock, blending half when simmered 20mins to keep some texture.A glug of ketchup added before blending is good, too.Nice with toasted cheese:D
Have been unable to re-tune my TV properly-technophobe:o-but I find I have more spare time. Not that I watch much, but it's amazing how I can fritter minutes here and there.Should really stick with radio then I might get some more crafts done! My friends son is coming over to tune me in.
Hope everyone is having a peaceful weekend :AHugs to anyone who would like some.

Mardatha, sorry you have a chest infection-maybe some echinachea would help if someone could get it for you? I gargle with some warm water in a glass with 5 drops tea tree oil for a sore throat or a heavy cold.Hope you get better soon and Grey Queen, too.
Haven't lost your humour Grey Queen! The 'veneerial disease' really made me laugh:D thank you!

Good evening everyone. Welcome to snowflake and get well soon Mardatha: I'm not suprised you've got a chest infection with all the lousy weather we've been having recently.

The latest here is, cue drum roll..............
I've just had my first attempt at jam making.

The good news is I got more in the jars than on the floor:p

The not so good news is that if the sample from the bottom of the pan is anything to go by I have accidentally made summer fruits toffee instead of jam:o I'm hoping that it's just because I scraped all the sticky bits into a bowl that it was solid and that the stuff in jars will be a bit better. My OH encouragingly told me not to worry as he is scheduled to go to the dentist next week anyway: cheeky so-and-so.

If it is solid is there anything I can do about it? Or is just a matter of trying again next time?

Top sheet, then blanket, then vapour barrier, then backing.
Mylar sheet went through the sewing machine, shower curtain wouldn't, so stitched it by hand. I have a very basic sewing machine. My old tredle foot one would take anything.

I'm going to add another wadding/fleece/something warm layer after the vapour barrier too for the next ones, just to see if an extra layer makes a bigger difference as some of the professional ones have 5 layers.
That's if it will go through my sewing machine of course.

I was telling the Canadian neighbour about posting here and she's seen them made with newspapers for wadding. Vapour barrier essential as the ink comes off!
Think I'll give that one a miss;)

So (just to be clear in my own mind - sorry but I'm having a very foggy week and have only just started catching up with the thread again) there is material and possibly wadding next to the glass which might get damp from condensation, but then a waterproof layer to stop the dampness coming through to the wadding and material on the room side of the window duvet?

Hope that you are feeling better soon, Mardatha and Grey Queen.

Have never dared make jam as I'm sure it'd be a disaster and the potential for 3rd degree burns would be too great for a cack-handed gal like me to risk. :rotfl:Be sure to report back on how the jarred jam turned out.

Hopefully jam in jars will be ok, but if not there are a few ideas here:

Get well soon mardatha - we miss you. Hope you have some love;y sun to cheer you up.

I havebeen extarordinarily busy today - and managed to clear all but one box from our bedroom - there were 12, and send another few bin bags to school fayre, several to the tip and several to recycling. And there is now a chest of drawers, shoe holder and a bathroom cabinet scheduled on tomorrow express tip run :)
Then attacked DS13 room - as he is unwilling to tidy it, and I am unwilling to l ive with it I decided to clear it - mainly into bin bags for tip, some into charity pile and one box to loft. He has so much junk its unbelievable and its that sort of stuff that is causing the mess so I have eradicated the stuff in thehope of eradicating the mess. Have removed anything he can use to hide stuff (dirty washing, half eaten food etc) and the rrom looks so much better for it.
Finally attacked the garden and have planted up the last of the plants I had bought for flower pots so now they are all looking very pretty indeed.

Loads of flowers on the courgette plant but still none on the tomato plants at all. My friend has suggested I need to move them into more direct sunlight but I really dont want to risk too much sun as it were so may play a little with positions tomorrow.
