All of the big 3 have got them on "offer" at the equivalent of £8-89 per kg. My little crop is therefore worth 43p  and it's just about the amount I'd add to yoghurt for breakfast. Can't say I've actually saved the 43p - would never have bought berries at that price!
LizzyB - did laugh - I was pricing up the broad beans a couple of weeks ago to see how much I had 'saved'.
DH & I turned out one of my potato barrels today (rubbing hands for a good crop) I think I managed all of a pound of potatoes - still first courgette today and a couple more soon and 1 cherry tomato (thinks - what would I make with those - not a lot!)
Hugs to Mardatha -Aniseed Fishermans Friends are very soothingeven if they dont cure it. (taste disgusting though)
7weekwonder - I've got some marmalade that's been 'overdone' & I'm sure there's a remedy for it so its been in my cupboard for about 4 years waiting......................!! BRILLIANT - Nearly choked on my beer at that one!
Mardartha - I hope you are feeling a bit better, come back soon and let us know how many MORE tomatoes you have had! Thanks to your advice, I put my tomatoes into the biggest pots I could find, and from being half dead looking they are now growing like triffids! I have a few flowers, so I am waiting with baited breath for further developments!Sealed pot Challenge 2011 member No 1241 - Final total £154.21

That is the best laugh I have had in ages, I'm on my second tissue now. I tried to read in to hubby but I couldn't get beyond the snorting and giggling so he was forced to take the laptop from me.
Definitely brightened up me weekend:rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:0 -
Howdy all
Thank you all for your kind wishes :kisses3: I am still calm, apart from when I start googling for information. I'm trying not to do that 'til I've spoken properly to my consultant.
Quite a strange day today. Did the bathroom and some of the kitchen, I have to work in small bursts as all the bending and stretching isn't good on my op wounds. But I got there in the end, which is the main thing.
Huge hugs to Mardatha :grouphug: also to Reverbe and IOIWE if they are reading :grouphug:, and to anyone else who needs or wants one :grouphug: xx

A few years back I rather optimistically gave some HM jam to my Dad and his new partner as a housewarming gift. It was a first attempt at jam-making and also the first time I'd met his partner. Imagine my mortification when I discovered that not only had I given them jam so thick they had to mix it with boiling water before they could use it, but that his partner was president of the local WI and therefore a bona fide jam-making goddess!!!!:rotfl: Luckily she is a truly lovely person who was still touched by the thought (and who persevered with using up the jam).

Zippychick and Lizzyb, unfortunately the curry powder didn't work. I forced down another bowlful but then had to give in and throw the rest away. I did sieve out the veg to put in the food waste collection so it wasn't totally wasted and will go towards making compost somewhere!

Ginnyknit, don't give up on your garden yet - mine is showing signs of stirring into life again so maybe yours will too now that we are having a spell of slightly warmer weather.
Mardatha, get well soon. You need to eat more kale ......
Went to a carboot sale this morning. I got two lovely mugs (unused) for 80p, 3 books and 3 magazines for £1.20, a flyzapper for £2 and, best of all, 40ft of builders' debris netting for a fiver :j. I will use this to make windbreaks around my tomatoes and to help protect my winter veg over winter, so I am really chuffed. It is quite expensive stuff (£30-£40 on ebay for similar amount). I may go back next week to get some more if I need it.
The downside is that I got too much sun, in spite of wearing factor 50 and a hat, so I have spent the rest of the day with a really sick headache. It's clearing a bit now so I am off to bed to get an early night, and hopefully I can spend the morning and evening on the lottie tomorrow (avoiding the hot daytime sun!).
I need to get some new hairclippers, too. I have alopecia, so shave my head. My clippers have been giving up the ghost for a while as the battery doesn't hold a charge anymore, even when I am using them plugged in. Last night I was shaving my head and the damn things started to run out. I just about made it, but thought I was going to have to dash to the local 24 hour asda to buy new ones to avoid going round with a half-shaved head  I can't complain - the shaver has lasted nearly five years. £17.99 for five years' hairdressing - that's moneysaving!! :rotfl:Works out at about 30p per month.
ETA in true money-saving style, I will be unscrewing the old shavers to see if I can replace the battery first, before buying new ones!Aspire not to have more but to be more.

Snowflake - about the plain flour: You can use it to make bread instead of buying the more expensive strong flour. What you need to do is to save water that you've cooked potatoes, rice or pasta in, and use it in your bread recipe in place of the ordinary tap water. What it does is to replace the gluten that's missing from standard plain flour, and you end up with lovely bread. I do it all the time.
I have been known to use water that I've cooked a mixture of potatoes and veg in - still works, but there's probably even more flavour.
You need to store the water in the fridge if not using it that day. And personally I only store it 24 hrs - haven't read that you shouldn't keep it longer, but it just seems sensible to me.Keeping two cats and myself on a small budget, and enjoying life while we're at it!0 -
