Can I ask what do you store you potatoes in.

I picked up what I think is a bargain - 5KGs for £1.69 (I'm probably deluded!) but now don't know where to keep them that is dark and dry.

I've seen titchy potatoes bags in lakeland but, I dunno, lakeland to be seems over priced, I try to avoid it.
  • and have a very good memory so i think would be to my advantage.;)

I think Lakeland has become grossly overpriced of late. I've seen items in there which can be obtained at a much cheaper price elsewhere. Whilst I like looking at some of the gadgets, if you don't ask yourself "Do I REALLY need this, you could end up with a lot of your kitchen cupboards jammed full of items you never use. Now who really needs a curved banana lunchstorage box or a banana ripening tree?

Pouting is a very cheap white fish. No idea what it tastes like though...eggs it would seem! :rotfl:

It was a piece about8 inches long by 3 or 4 wide and cost me 35p.[/QUOT

I went to S@insbugs after reading about the lovley fish pie recipes to buy some fish.
Got to fish counter and asked for a lovley piece of cod about the same size as above when the lady said £8.05p :eek::eek: myself and the other two ladies in the queue all looked at each other with pale faces...I said "your joking are you not?" and with a straight face she replied" No Madam"..so that was it then I spied a display of fish bits so had a large bag of those for £1.30 and am now in the process of making myself a lovley mixed fish bits pie, that is the first time that the price increases have hit me fair and square between the eyes.:o

Next door neighbour(single mom 2 kids and super dooper pennypincher) said a few mins ago that :oif I go to our local chippy he sometimes has some offcuts that he sells cheapo, and if I take the bones and trimmings I can make a fish soup/.sauce. /fishcakes.so we are going up there in a minute to see what he has.

Also the local butcher saves her the bones and chicken carcasses from his cooked chicken spit thingey, so have a masterclass in chicken/fish stock and soup making planned for this evening.:T

The local vege shop where she has her part/time cleaning job has just changed her hours and she said I wont be able to do it anymore so I volunteered to have the girls its only 2 hours twice a week and in return I will get some of her veggies she gets cheapo of her employer and we can work some arrangement out like me borrowing her sewing machine and her showing me how to make jam and pickles, I think she is the kind of neighbour we should all have.

Im going to learn everything she can teach me, I thought I could make my penny squeak but Im only tickling it , she can make it yowl and run for the hills :rotfl:

I now need to source some jam jars etc, this time last year :rotfl:I was worrying about packing a case to go on holiday with the rotten exOH and was spending xxx amounts of £sss on stupid things, my life is much better in skint mode, I can breathe freely and make my own decisions and sleep well at night. Thats nothing that money can buy, peace of mind, priceless.

Im away to peruse the recipe sections
    Keep well and happy...

I am on a mission to get rid of this debt I have as soon as I can , so I have been doing everything I can not to spend money unless its a NEED.
I cook from scratch, buy most things either value or whoopies. Also making cards and presents for family and friends. Also as I have had to give up my job to look after my OH money is alot tighter. so I am carefully with every penny I spend.
Well today my younger sister turns up, she wanted to know what I was going buy our older sister for her birthday which is in four weeks, said I have not decided what to make yet.Well she told me as my sister was having a large party I couldnt turn up with something made, so she has decided that she will buy something from me and my OH and sign it that it was from us. I told her she was not to do that as I dont have the money to pay her back.
I got a so annoyed at her I told her to leave.
Then she told me the family are embarrassed at how we live, told her coming from them it was a joke as they all live off credit cards and most of them owe twice as much as me. So she stormed out.
I rang my older sister and told her we would not be going to her party as I dont have the money to buy her a present, as I would be making her one.
She told me not to bother to make her anything as she does not want homemade, and its up to me if I dont come to her party.
So I guess we am not going.

Don't let them upset you. They're not worth it. Stick to your guns. I think you have been courageous and have the moral high ground.

Havnt been on for a while as takes ages to catch up on all the posts.

Still OS'ing here. Just missed super whoopsie moment in Asda yesterday. Managed to get some kebabs for 80p though. Have ordered some books I want off the library (free reservations for me as I work there on a Sunday).

One good thing Ive done is sort out the 6 week school hols for my DD. There is a really good holiday club not far from me in a sports college. £7.50 for a full day (kids take pack lunch). Whole range of activities, sports and things like cookery/art. With the aid of this, Mum and annual leave the 6 weeks are sorted!

After the horror of the gas/elec price rises I was wondering if I should invest in a Calor gas heater. My rooms can all be shut off so can keep heat in one room. Was thinking have heating on for an hour in the morning (in Winter this is) then Im in work, have heating on for 2 hours as we come home then elec blankets on at bed time and use the calor gas heater in the room were sitting in. I can get the gas quite cheap thanks to a friend in the trade;), this way I would only use the heating for 3 hours a day. Or should I use portable elec heater instead?
I have every possession I want. I have a lot of friends who have a lot more possessions. But in some cases I feel the possessions possess them, rather than the other way round

Well Dee, you can claim the high moral ground when you are debt free and everything is just starting to fall around their ears. I think both sisters attitudes show just why the country is in the state it is. Ungrateful bloody woman! Sorry, but people like that really get my goat.

    Chin up x
