Lindy Loo, I'm getting the same sort of grief from DH's familiy about our wedding, they don't understand why we are using our garden, they don't like the food, the car, etc etc. But it's my day & I'll do it my way!
    Hugs Hester

İ am in one of those ranting moods so forgive me before i start!!---its the wife again! Do you women treat your husband like a blank cheque when you decide you need more money!!??? No. And I don't know any women who do. :)

. On saturday night i had too much to drink and my wife being in a mood with me let me get on my motorbike and ride home instead of insisting i go in the taxi with her

Sorry but I don't think it's her responsibility to stop you drink driving. If my husband did that I would report him to the police before he killed himself or someone else.:(

Hope things improve for you soon. :)

Catznine, sorry the pins and needles are being a pain. Hope it's sorted soon and the baby makes an appearance soon. xxx

Power and internet on and off here. Trees down everywhere and yachts washed ashore. We have the fire lit, dinner on and plenty of candles so will be fine but I feel so sorry for those who need to travel in this weather or have had property damaged. :(

Hello everyone, today I have booked my wedding, 12 weeks today (15th Aug) at the town hall. We decided yesterday to go for it - we been together 8 years and got two boys.

We were all excited, started to tell family and got the, not that day we will have to cancel something - what do you mean no evening reception - youve got to have flowers - why arent you having a 'proper' wedding dress and bridesmaids! The list goes on... so I have booked it and its staying as we said, wedding then lunch at a chinese eat all you want. They will set the tables up for us so if anyone wants to make a speech they can. Im getting a nice dress but no bridesmaids. We have a strict budget and we want simple but hardly anyone gets that.

dont talk about food prices going up, this month Im back to shopping in lots of different places.

hope everyone is well on this blustery day

It is your day and it should be up to you how you tie the knot. I was quiet young when i married and was influenced by what other people thought I should have and do. Years later I would have done lots of things differently.
Weddings should not be about splashing money, they should just be about two people and them making the commitment to each other. One of the best weddings I went to was a small affair, it was a church do but was an evening service, the church was lit by candles and as it was Christmas, carols were sung. The bride wore a long cape with a hood and underneath a simple evening dress. We then went to a local pub where we had a buffet and mince pies. The bride and groom were relaxed and everyone had a lovely time.

Congratulations on your wedding and remember its your wedding.

İ will rewind a bit to saturday night--as you might know i ride a scooter in chaos traffic in a large turkish city. On saturday night i had too much to drink and my wife being in a mood with me let me get on my motorbike and ride home instead of insisting i go in the taxi with her---she said on sunday that i had a 50pc chance of killing myself and if i did she would be rich!!!--i kinda take things to heart like that!!
Now she expects me to pay all her expenses for our holiday when i have warned her all year to save. we earn the same amount from our business and i have bought the air tickets but she has known she had to pay the visas but now she is expecting me to!--and then she needs spending money etc etc --i feel i am being taken as a mug!!-rant over

You chose to drink too much and you chose to get on a motorbike and ride it back when you knew you had drunk alcohol.

    You are a mug.

I'd have let you go and called the police to let them know you were coming.

Is your donor card up to date?

    de1amo,

How can you choosing to drink and drive be your wife's fault? Your post is absolutely priceless! You often post on MSE about your drinking habits. Personally, I think your wife deserves a medal.

The wind here is wild. I've given up lifting everything that's blown over in the garden, it can stay where it is until the wind dies down. Thankfully we have had no problems with our power so I have a nice warming lamb tagine bubbling away.

Errrm.......DeLamo - I do see your point re the splitting of expenses on the holiday front.

Ummm....but I know its Turkey - and the road safety concerns arent (shall we say) as prominent as in Britain. I recall raising my eyebrows several times at the lower level of concern for safety - be it on or off the road there BUT you are British me ducks and, with that, you DO know about the "dont drink and drive" message. So - sometimes it ain't (for once) "when in Rome do as the Romans do". In this case - I would say it would still be wise to have regard to British expectations of how much its safe to drink before driving (ie not much at all.....).

You know me by now well enough to guess the next words - ie "self-responsibility". We all need to take responsibility for our own actions. Its not up to other people ultimately to "rein us in" (even if it is for our own good - amongst others). We ourselves have that responsibility....

JIl - You almost described our wedding to a Tee!! :)

We chose our wedding - horrified my mum when she saw the dress (it was red!) and had everything how we wanted - friends did almost everything with us, from making the cake and buffet, to photos, video and DJing. We hired a hall for £50 and were fortunate that as I worked for the church our fees were waved. My dress was made as was DD by a local dressmaker who charged £120 for both and made some extras for DS (bow tie and waistcoat). All in our wedding cost less than £500 - but everyne who attended still talks about it - best wedding they have ever been to apparently!
Weddings should be individual and reflect you and your partner - thats the way to create a beautiful day with special memories.

Re "Kitchen in the Hills" - cor...you're right re the current Amazon price...and have now got me wishing I'd bought a joblot of this book when I got my copy recently for 1p......(1p buying price to £25 selling price in a matter of months....thinks "Next time I think a book is a particularly good idea - I'll check out how much storage space I have to buy a load of copies as an investment.....").

'Fraid I do want to keep my copy of it though - but if there's a particular recipe you want then my guess is that a lot of OS'ers have bought those (?dont know - but it was rather a lot of copies they had back the...?) - so perhaps you could tell us and those of us with copies could PM you one or two each?

Power intermittent here too, tray of candles is ready and dongle and credit card beside the laptop if I need internet later.

Trains all stopped now, Edinburgh airport closed, some of the roof has come off, Forth Bridge closed and loads of trees down in town stopping the buses and all traffic. Its times like this you realise what a green city I live in as I've shifted my car away from the trees in the nearby park.

Farm and shop not long replaced all their poly tunnels from the winter storms now all shredded again, such a shame.
