I agree with all your points Martin, but for goodness sake! This from the man who still refuses to put the correct 's' in 'Martin Lewis' MoneySavingExpert'. (And no, moving your name a bit closer to the 's' in 'Saving' is NOT good enough!) Come on Martin, do it properly and lead by example!'In penguins and pearls we'll drink and we'll dance, 'til the end of our days, 'cause it ain't left to chance that we win...'0

'Very/extremely/almost' unique!
Unique means only existing in one place or situation or not like anything or anyone ....so how can something be 'very/extremely/almost' unique...when I hear people say this I scream out loud!"0 -
Some of those examples have made me wish to bang my head on something hard. (of instead of have, invite instead of invitation) However, my teeth clench when I see an apostrophe used to indicate a plural.0

And PLEASE change the heading on this blog to include an apostrophe. It's quoted in correct English at the top of this thread........Both Pedant's or Pedants' are potentially correct, depending on whether it's your thread or one for your multiple pedant readers. I would even prefer Pendant's (which is what my fingers typed just now) to Pedants.......:rotfl:
ETA: Thank youEx board guide. Signature now changed (if you know, you know).0 -

There used to be a computer shop on City Road in Cardiff. It had a large banner across the top stating very clearly:
"Wale's Largest Computer Warehouse"
Oooh yeah, had to be seen to be believed!
(I think at some point later the apostrophe was removed, leaving a large gap between E and S, and I guess they still hadn't a clue as they didn't put it back in the right place!)
I'm on a forum with several foreign members who write English better than some of the known UK (or GB, or GB&NI, or whichever you want to pick me up on) residents. I'd love to suggest spelling errors if they are consistently made by someone to either keep our non-English speaking friends aware that they are not accepted vocabulary, or to educate them into better English - it can't hurt can it? I don't do it by the way, don't want to rock the boat. An example here:
"My hobbies are:Soccer;Go out whit friend's and having fun,and enjoy the game's like World of Warcraft and FiFa11.
I am a kind peep, which want's to help poor people or the people which doesn't know what's ok and what's bad,& to learn em what is good and what is bad and shouldn't do,I am correcting em correctly and explaim em what is wrongh and what is bad.
"
so...
em instead of them
whit instead of with (used many times beyond just the quoted text)
random use of apostrophes (so many people just stick an apostrophe in when the word ends with s. argh.
Do you think I should correct im and explaim im what is wrongh?0 -

For the sake of Goodness I have to check - your omission of even the apostrophe never mind the 's' is deliberate, isn't it?0 -

The worst case of errant apostrophe I have seen is still on a sign in Swansea for "Mac's Meat". It appears on the sign as "Mac,s Meat". It has been like that for at least 5 years.

One of my most irritating mistakes is the misuse of driving licence in job advertisements.
After passing my driving test I was licensed to drive by the DVLA, to prove it they issued me with a driving licence.0
