Just count yourself lucky that you didn't try and get BB via another provider. It would NEVER have been sorted out.

There are many small communities without broadband. .

Thats a very good point, these other providers (I am with talktalk) are cheaper but the system for reporting faults is a real pain in backside. Its hard enough to try and get something fixed without having to introduce a 3rd or 4th party into the mix. Saying that however when I was with BT in the old days they wernt so great on their own either

It makes no difference whether you use BT Retail or another provider, the work on the line is done by Openreach, who have the same relationship with BTRetail as with any other provider. There is no extra 3rd or 4th party involved.

Don't see why it should be -I work for "one of those other providers" in phone and BB support -in cases where it's "wholesale" line rental -ie it's still BT's own line -I simply log into an Open Reach reporting tool to raise the fault (once I've tested the line to see where the problem is) and make the appointment for the (Open Reach) OR engineer for either an external or internal fault. I doubt BT's system is any different.

I will say I've found OR engineers to be a crap shoot though some are excellent and some don't appear to have a Scooby !

talktalk also have another provider...qube or something like that....they send these out where they cant see a fault on the line, when they find out that there is a fault and their system just doesnt show it they then pass it on to openreach...hence 3rd party, talktalk-qube-openreach
