Need to sort through my wardrobe and the kids stuff to see what I can sell. Ive also got continental headlights, roof bars and a roof box that wont fit on my new to me car.

Ive also had a HPI check done on my old car and its coming back as clear (despite KH telling me 6 months ago that it still had finance on it) So ive got abit of a dilemma. Do I :-
    1. scrap it
    2. sell it without any MOT
    3. Get it through an MOT and then sell it?
    4. leave it on the drive to rot just incase

Obviously I will need to spend some money on getting an MOT but would I recoup the costs?

  • Lit, there is a support thread on here for giving up smoking if having some cheerleaders would help. I don't know about the car stuff or how much it costs to feed teenagers (instinctively feel it must be a lot) but good luck on your journey to be debt free.
    Whatever
  • Its been a week since I last wrote in my diary. Since then I have had my HB assessment back but I think its wrong, very wrong!!! I have been awarded £163.49 per week!!! If I multiply that by 52 then divide by 12 it works out at £708.45 a month. My rent is £650 a month and I expected to pay at least £150 of the rent myself. They have said that an overpayment of £97 has been made and they will be deducting it from my weekly benefit but they have today credited my bank account with £897 with another payment of £326.98 being credited to my account on the 18th.

I have phoned HB up today but they are insisting that it is correct! What I dont want is a massive overpayment bill at the end of next year so I think I am planning to stick what I think is being overpaid into an isa and see what happens at the end of next year.

Hurrah on getting the HB payments sorted. As you say, put the "surplus" away, - be very strict with yourself on this - and then if it comes back as being incorrect in the future, you won't find yourself short while they recoup the difference, and if it IS correct, then you will be building up a little savings pot for emergencies etc.

As for the car - if it has finance on it, you will need to check that you can sell it and clear the finance completely. If you can, then I would do that - if you can't then you need to think again - if KH has the finance in his name, then is the car also in his name? If so, get him to take it off your driveway and deal with the whole thing himself.....?

  • Thanks Hypno,
Ive had a HPI check done and its coming up clear!!! Which I am furious about. The car is 8 years old and he bought it from new so why their should be finance outstanding on it anyway is beyond me but as KH really is an utter first class KH I believed him. I think he just wants me to hand him over the car so he can ferry his new family about but hes got no chance on that 1. He doesnt pay maintenance, ive cleared most of our mutual debts so he can go jump on this 1. I have phoned trading standards and they have told me that since I have done everything possible to see if finance was outstanding and I have a clear HPI then I am free to sell it.

I am going to book the car in for an MOT and see what it fails on (if anything) then tax it and flog it. Im sick of looking at it and KH could have come at any time to take it but he hasnt so I think hes just full of !!!!!!. Proceeds from the car will go into an ISA.

  • Busy day today. Kids break up from school tomorrow for 3 weeks!!! Off to Haven on 25th April so need to get sorted for that. KH coming for the kids on Friday morning so need to pack their things ready. Got loads of cleaning and ironing to do, the kitchen is a sh1thole, its the bane of my life and no matter how much I scrub it it never looks immaculate, plus give the kids half hour from coming in from school and its trashed again.

  • Ive allocated myself £60 for shopping this week (Wed til Tue) as its only going to be myself and my eldest son. I need something for dinner tonight and tomorrow for all of us then as from Friday I will be using what is in the freezer and making all kinds of concoctions as DS and I arent fussy about what we eat. Hopefully will free up some space in the freezer so I can start filling it again.
