I'm going to have a trial run this week at making my own pate - if it's a hit then we'll have that as a starter on some HM crusty rolls....

Main course will be - turkey, pot roast beef, gammon (like to have a selection of meats) sausages in bacon, roast parsnips, potatoes and sweet potatoes, sprouts (par boiled and then pan fried with garlic and bacon), stuffing and then this year I'm going to make a vegetable toad in the hole.....basically carrots, leeks and celery in a yorkshire pudding batter, it's lovely cold with a slice of meat and pickle too.

Pudding will be either Xmas pud or a toffee ice creamy slice (not great pudding eaters here)

Turkey will be cooked Xmas eve, the gammon will go in the slow cooker and then on Christmas morning the beef will go in the slow cooker so that it's ready for lunch at about 2pm. Sausages will get wrapped in bacon and frozen in the dish I'll cook them in (just pop into the oven from frozen) Veg will all be chopped and in the fridge over night so there's hardly any work to do on the day.

    We will be having:

roast chicken (I am not much of a meat eater) possibly a quorn roast if I don't feel like chicken, roast potatoes, roast parsnips, mash potato, carrot, sprouts, yorkshire pudding and gravy

pudding will be christmas pud for my OH and my dad and mince pie and cream for me.
  • starters: prawn cocktail, pate and crusty bread or melon (DD will demolish this)

main: Turkey crown as nobody eats the dark meat so it'd be wasted, gammon, and goose because my dad has decided that's what he's having (a family row almost followed when he suggested the goose replaced the turkey!) parsnips, roast potatoes, carrots, green beans, brussel sprouts, brocolli, cauliflower, babycorn, stuffing, pigs in blankets.

    desserts: Christmas Pudding, Triffle, Profiteroles

cheese, chocolates and lots of alcohol at regular intervals during the evening.

    :j i can't wait :j
  • we go to MiLs

there is usually a huge variety as one sil is vege (but doesn;t have anything but pots, veg and trimmings), one Bil and sil (married) don't eat any veg, dh only likes certain veg, and all the kids (5 in total) eat various bits of the meal

    So the list is:
    Roast Turkey Crown
    Roast Beef
Roast Gammon (if anyone wants it or otherwise saved for buffet)
    Sausages in Bacon
    Plain cocktail sausages
Cocktail Sausage rolls (for the picky eaters and the kids)
    stuffing balls
    yorkshire pudding
    brussels sprouts,
    cauli cheese (for one Bil)
    broccolli
    Roast Parsnips
    Boiled Parsnips
    Swede
Peas (for Sil who eats no veg - she will stomach 1 tsp of peas on her plate, DH has some too)
    Carrots (for DH)
    Roast Potatoes
And Gravy for those that want it

    Pudding:
    Sherry Trifle
    Blackforest Gateau
Xmas Pud and cream / ice cream / custard

and eaten about 4 hours later for tea a huge buffet where we all get told off for not eating (even with our bellies still rounded from lunch!!)

And would you believe we have it all again on boxing day - a tradition I had to get used to when I met DH as boxing day in our house was gammon, pot salad and pickles!

forgot to say all the food is for usually 9 adults and 5 children between 18 months and 6

There will just be 3 of us and we are having a small rack of Venison, with roast potatoes, roast parsnips, carrots, and sprouts with chestnuts. Traditional Christmas pudding will follow, with rum sauce. I may do a suitably 'colourful' soup to start, haven't decided yet.

  • This year there will be just the three of us so going to try a goose for a change. Will probably serve with some sort of sauce, must check out recipes for goose.

    Crispy roast potatoes
    Creamed swede
    Honey roast parsnips
Leak and white cabbage in a white sauce with breadcrumbs on top (or leaks in cream sauce)
    peas
    broad beans
    home made stuffing
bread sauce & pigs in blankets (not sure that that's traditional with goose but who cares it's Xmas)

I'm the only one who eats Xmas pudd so may not bother, thinking of treating ourselves to something special from M & S.
