Hey you guys, i just wanted to let you know the outcome of phoning the electric company today re;dissconection. They told me that the payment book was not an option but having a meter installed coupld be done where they will take the debt bit by bit over weeks to clear it. Great news, managed to stall the meter instalation til the 20th april which means the whole bankruptcy should have been done and dusted by then and the debt should be part of the bankruptcy.... hey presto im now not going to be cut off ;o)

You may also be able to avoid the meter with the debt written off, on the basis that the meter is purely a means to repay the debt... although be prepared for your supplier to insist on continuing down the pre-paid meter route based on your history alone, i.e. running up the debt in the first place. They may not accept that you're not likely to run up another debt during BR.
But otherwise, YAY for you. :jWhen I joined, I needed a name. The forum members gave one to me...I am INAN

hey cher1977. been reading about your whole situation and hope that you are coping with all the stress. i know its easy for others to say ' it will get better' but it so will. i take it you dont live in scotland? the laws are very different here and i think a bit simpler in dealing with debts. we have Trust Deed here, which i have experienced after finding myself in £68,000 of debt (not including mortgage!) and not able to cope. basically an IVA type thing but similar to bankrupsy, i think. anyway, no matter what difficulties you face there is always some kind of solution out there, it may not be easy to find it but im sure the support of likeminded people on here will guide you through these difficult times. only my opinion, but shame on your Ex for leaving you to make difficult choices! even though his child will be affected!!! i know you want to do the right thing by him and your kids, but you need to do what YOU feel is the best thing for you and your children, tough for him if he cant see that this is the priority in all this not his precious credit rating!. Dont be forced into a decision just because he has intimidated you to do so. Keep strong and stay focussed on the fact that everyday your dealing with it is a day nearer to feeling in control of your life. best of luck with everything. You are not alone, so many people on this forum are speaking from real experience and they understand what you are going through. chin up... it will get easier... i promise. x0

Just food for thought but selling the house does not mean you will not get re-housed as we got our homeless points when our house was on the market and we had a buyer (who pulled out) but because of your struggle to pay the mortgage this can be a reason to get a council house0

Put your name on the housing list now if you haven't already - you will be moved up in priority when the house does get repossessed, but building up a few time points as well won't hurt - council housing is usually allocated by priority band then time on the list.Only after the last tree has been cut down,
Only after the last river has been poisoned,
Only after the last fish has been caught,
Only then will you find that money cannot be eaten0
