Hi, I have flown before frequently but usually with the same airline. This was a new suitcase bought purposly for using as hand luggage as it stated cabin suitcase in the description. I have never heard about airlines having different sizes until yesterday.

The various airlines moneymaking shenanigans have been well covered on MSE, so I don't see how you haven't heard about the different cabin luggage sizes and fitting in the measure scam.

Commonsense would point you to the airlines website which will have the relevant sizes on it, most also include a warning that the whole case including wheels, handles etc. must fit in the measure.

And sorry, but I don't buy your not fit for purpose argument as you clearly have used the case for it's intended purpose at least once on the outward journey you mention, which rather defeats your argument.

So, you bought a case; the case did it's job and Debenhams owe you nothing.

I ll also be asking the office of fair trading, and Tripp themselves.

So there's nothing wrong with it then, but you've written to the office of fair trading about a suitcase you know nothings wrong with.

Can you tell me how you'll going to reimburse myself and other tax payers money with the office of fair trading having to deal with your completely and utterly pointless complaint?

Well funnily enough i hadn t and ive been using mse for a couple of years. As far as i was concerned the suitcase was described on their website as a cabin suitcase. No other information was given. So rightly or wrongly i thought it was suitable for my requirements. As it wasn t and i was stung for £30, £10 would have been more than enough clearly someone is in the wrong. Now whether im right or wrong i m going to persue it and if you dont like it tough.

Well if thats the outcome then i ll get over it but it was a false description and i wouldn t have bought the suitcase otherwise and these cases aren t cheap. I happen to like the suitcase and would happily have carried on using it had it been " a cabin suitcase " but its no good to me now.

It's not a false description. If it called cabin baggage, and fits within the DfT limits then it is correct. You have no recourse under SoGA rights.

    Unless of course
    1) it said something like "Complies with all size restirction on all airlines/your line".
    2) you asked prior to purchase whether it would comply with your airline.
    3) the size specified on the website/label doesn't match the actual size

If neither of these are true, then you made the mistake. Debenhams owe you nothing, of course they may refund the baggage out of good will. As for compensation for your own mistake, errr no.

How was i supposed to know that i have to check sizes that various planes allow. It should be one standard size for all.

I agree it should be the same, but it's not. This doesn't change anything though, it's up to the buyer to check the product is suitable or ask prior to purchase.

I neither dislike nor like it; simply pointing out how you will be wasting your time, and that of others.

What you do is up to you, and if you come up with comments like your "tough" one don't expect to get very far.:D
