Oh dear  isn t everything a pest. Had my case not been fairly dear ( greatly reduced in a sale ) i think i would have preferred to leave it there and bung everything in a big bag if i had one on me.

There are numerous airlines and they all have differing sizes for hand luggage.
Yes, it's a pain but it's their airline so they make the rules.
Sounds as though you have not flown before.0 -

Because the girl employed to do a certain job did her job, rather than getting herself in trouble for breaking the rules of her job.
Clearly OP has a job in which they can do anything they please, be it giving 100% discounts off of products, or waiving vital paperwork or just breaking all the rules, because there are no rules where OP works.
However, not everyone is so lucky, so they get abused.0 -

You dont know anything about me or even if i have a job. Its funny how the suitcase was fine on the outward journey. Had it not have been i could possibly have done something about it.0 -

Hi, I have flown before frequently but usually with the same airline. This was a new suitcase bought purposly for using as hand luggage as it stated cabin suitcase in the description. I have never heard about airlines having different sizes until yesterday.0 -

Seeing as you referred to her as a jobsworth, that she had an answer for everything and was a 'girl' (in quotations implying sarcasm) you have obviously never been, or would never allow yourself to be in a situation of having to deny somebody (perhaps a customer) something because of the rules of your employment... should you be, or have you ever been employed, of course.
If you had, you would be able to empathise and realise that doing your job properly is nothing to be ashamed of, and workers should not be personally insulted for following the rules set down by their employer. Perhaps the staff on the outward flight were actually failing at their job, which then put their colleague in the awkward situation of being demeaned.
Staff are people, too, and very few set out to cause a problem. Shockingly, they don't enjoy being in situations like that, but if they relented, while you would have flown happy, they'd be in trouble for allowing oversized baggage onto the plane.0 -
Also, I should point out, that how things are packed can make a huge difference to how they fit in the baggage measuring things. I flew to ireland once with my bag, took minimal clothes, and it fit in fine.
On the flight back, it was too big, because of how a book was laying, puffing the bag out. After rearranging my stuff, it fit fine.0 -

Well you were lucky then . I didn t feel like i had a choice of doing something about it. I was hit with the £30 cost. As it happened my case wasn t crammed full it was just a cm or so over size.0
