I guess you will eventually be fitted with prepayment meters if you continue to refuse to pay, and that would be on a standard tariff costing 25% more or so.

As previously pointed out you are on possibly the cheapest tariff available, and you did sign up for it.

Being hit with two energy bills in the same month must have been the straw that broke the camels back in your case.

Would it be possible to borrow or get a salary advance for the first payment for SP to get you started with the DD.
That gum you like is coming back in style.

Are you on the "Capped Price Energy" Tariff? If so, I don't think you'll be able to pay quarterly. You could try explaining that you didn't realize you would have to pay by direct debit, and ask them if out of the kindness of their hearts they will let you switch to a quarterly tariff without paying cancellation charges.

0845 numbers aren't premium rate numbers, they're local rate.

Or you could just accept that you signed up to a tariff which carries a cancellation charge, that you had ample time to read the t&cs before you signed, and now you have a choice either to pay the charge or stick with the tariff.

You was helpful until now, i guess then its too much to ask they accept i am unemployed with a bill already outstanding and can not allow debits.
