trying actually ringing them and saying you want to cancel your dd, it might be that they have to move you onto a different tariff to do this though.

its a 0845 number premium rate - who knows how long i will be waiting but i will try.

What would you like to happen in an ideal world?

For once I have some sympathy with an energy company. They probably just haven't a clue what you're complaining about or what you want them to do.

i understood that funnily enough, but now that faber and penrhyn have explained what the problem is, i can explain it to scottish power. If they insist on direct debit it will make things worse, if they change to quarterly i will be happy about it.

Are you on the "Capped Price Energy" Tariff? If so, I don't think you'll be able to pay quarterly. You could try explaining that you didn't realize you would have to pay by direct debit, and ask them if out of the kindness of their hearts they will let you switch to a quarterly tariff without paying cancellation charges.

0845 numbers aren't premium rate numbers, they're local rate.

If you didn't want payments taken through your bank account perhaps you should have thought twice before provding details. Why did you give such details if no such intent was present? Did you read the screens when the information was requested?

It's a good job Scottish Power are Spanish and not Nigerian. Though it seems they are as good as to the OP.

It would be rather silly to now change to a different tariff and pay the cancellation charges due, as paying by monthly payments is easier and saves you money!

Not so silly if that's what he prefers. And he may not be charged for cancelling, if he explains that he is just not happy with monthly DDs.

Plenty of us aren't happy with monthly DDs, we just put up with it to avoid being charged more. I'd pay by transfer if I had my druthers.

Sorry, I cannot work out what you are on about.

I can assume you wanted to change to SP and thus gave them your account details and they have transferred the gas, but are waiting on the electricity. You now explode becase a final bill from BG has arrived and you cannot pay for it, so you fire off pointless emails stating some frantic right, without thinking.

1 It is good that you are going to pay by Direct Debit and take advantage of cheaper rates and budget.

I cannot descern why you want to chuck thus away because they ahve taken a payment from you for this service. I myself are currently about £180 in credit with SP, knowing that mny fire is well ablaze and Freda has warm toes, and my April bill is already paid.

I think you are rash in saying another company will take your account, you are in the middle of a transfer.

As for paying BG, if you act nicely, they may take installments, but as you have left them, I dobt it.

As for food, sorry I feel more for those I throw parcels at in North Africa in 1984.

Alas, I fear OP has already heard this and will no doubt start another thread in the hope of getting the answer they want and not the advice they seek

I have sent another email to them, explaining i'm not happy with direct debit at all, they have stated they will charge me for switching, i replied and said move me to a different tariff of quarterly billing with readings from me every 3 months - and i am yet to get a response.

I also said i can't pay the switching charges if they refuse to move me from direct debits and i will happily go to court if they want to pursue that.

Not sure what is going to happen, all i know is my bank have returned my direct debit to me, my bank account is normal and not overdrawn leaving me with nothing and that is normal to me, plus i have a final bill from british gas to pay this month i can not pay 2 bills at once, not on my income, not a chance on earth i can do that.
