    Ladies,

good evening & thank you for lovely posts :A.

Makeup - always a pleasure to hear from you, your absence had been noted but I know you're a busy woman so will let you off. Great news on getting the funding & glad to hear that your secondment has been extended. I can understand your being a bit nervous about reducing the time you have at work & doing lots of unpaid overtime is not ideal. Dont' get burnt out, you're too young. Hope the wedding weekend is fab ... interesting about the hat vs fascinators, I was recently reading about a day course in making one, run by a lady whos name I've forgotten ... something to do with gingerbread hats though.

    /QUOTE]

I'll be fine, things are going well and work and we're super busy now I've moved to a new office. Lots of it is stuff about the move so hopefully once that is resolved things will calm down.

Actually things are going well on the job front which is good, there is finally an advert for a permanent post (same as my current role) and they have agreed to fund my masters.

So I'm going to be even busier but I'm really keen to keep on aiming high.... the chief exec is resigning and is going in May so who knows that could be my next job!!!!!!

I hope the meeting went well at work and things are going to be stable for you for a while.

Have faith though, you are clearly talented and resourceful so if things don't work out here, there will be other opportunities.

    Am intrigued about gingerbread hats!!

I'm taking my fascinator but I did buy some feathers and some sequins so might take that too and see what I can whip up!!
I've got my own flat :j:j

Now I have to pay the bills

Grrrrr just lost entire post by being really dumb :o.

    For makeup > Gingerbread Hats

Thank you for best wishes re the meeting.

Grumpy & Gropey came back from it in very different moods. Grumpy was errr, well grumpy & Gropey was very positive.

No meeting was called so I assume we just carry on as normal until told otherwise. We'll be out & about on Sunday & I really need some time at home alone to do chores, laundry & get DDs latop set up so didn't offer to work tomorrow.

I'm still going to try to stash spare cash until I get serious saving plans in place so I'm saving pocket money rather than having wild spending sprees. Shame really, I love a good spree :D.

    Child Care Fund = £30
    Presents Fund = £ 0 (nieces B-day)
Trips Fund = £20 (had a spare tenner so put it in there to boost the fun possibilities)

A trip to the dentist today was £24 for my check up & DD is to be referred to orthodontist. I'm a bit wary of this as apparently this is no longer treated within the NHS & a friend of mine has just finished paying £1,000 for her daughter's braces _pale_.

Withdrew my £30 allowance for the week & then zipped to the co op on the way home & discovered lovely Twinings tea bags on a bogof & also had to buy some more buttery stuff & bread. Total spend was £5.15 & the total Grocery spend is now £86.91p.

On the plus side, I received notification from Quidco that £41.35p has been paid to my account so the Holiday Fund has been rebooted & now has £47.76p in it. Need to keep filling that up or we'll be camping in the back garden next summer .

With just £25.65p left in the grocery budget & a whole 7 days for it to last, I think we all know where I have to do my shopping this week ...

I'd love to be skipping off to the wonders of Waitrose tomorrow, but that doesn't make good financial sense this week, so Tatco it is.

Will report spends & start catching up with all diaries tomorrow.

    G'night
    xx

  • Morning Lula.

Sound like you found some good bargains in the coop - just be careful in Waitrose!

I have a bit of a cold virus thing so plans for the weekend had to change at the last minute unfortunately. Still, feel better today but probably because I haven't done anything so far today!

Not up to much today apart from lots of resting and lounging around to get better and then hopefully full steam ahead next week!

    Bonjour bon amis,

fedupandskint - sorry that you've been tackled by virus :( Glad to hear you're resting up & taking care of yourself.

I'm forwarding some positive health vibes your way & a sprinkling of happy dust too, wish you a full recovery very soon :).

Had a near miss this morning; nearly squished my own DD . I was on my way to dropping her off at school & she saw a group of friends on the other side of the road so I pulled in right in front of the crossing so she could join them. She kissed me & leapt out of the car. I looked in rear view mirror to see if anything was coming before I pulled out again & then looked in front but couldn't see DD crossing the road so assumed she had already joined friends, eyes on rear mirror I started to reverse & then through back side window saw DD up on the kerb & stopped. " you nearly ran me over she mouthed". I was very shocked & opened up the window to call out to her but she was too busy trying to cross the road, so left her to concentrate on that.

I just could not see her as the silly child was standing right by the rear window pillar - completely obscured & why on earth she had gone round the back of the car rather than use the crossing I cannot wait to find out. I didn't want to cause a scene in front of her friends but will have to have strong words tonight. Felt quite sick.

Carried on to Tatco, half wondering if I should turn back, but pulled myself together & got on with the shopping.

Total grocery spend was £22.12p so within budget :j & now have £3.53 left for the week. We may need more milk, but otherwise should manage on what we have.

Arrived home to discover window cleaning in progress after a very long absence. That was £8 but worth it. Had a rather embarassing moment with him too. He said that he wanted to ask me a personal question, & had wanted to ask for over a year now. My ego & I braced ourselves for what we suspected might be a date.

With my brain trying to rustle up 101 nice ways to say thank you but NO, & my conscience still coming to terms with running over my own daughter :o I kinda missed/didn't listen properly to the bit when he said he'd been wanting to ask for over a year now as he was sure I looked different, but didn't think it was his place .

So, deep breath, pulled cardi round me, crossed my arms & then challenged him to 'ask away then'. He looked a bit embarassed then admitted that I'd just covered up the point of discussion
, then said that his OH had hers done ...

I then twigged that he meant my teeth so said "Yes, I'm really pleased with them, I've always been so self conscious & they were well worth the £400 I'd paid. I beamed to reveal the craftmanship & he looked stunned & asked where on earth I'd gone to get them done for £400. I was a bit puzzled, but said that there was the surgery just down the road & I could give him a referral if he liked.

He looked at me as though I was a complete & utter lunatic, then laughed & replied that he didn't think they'd suit him. Now, bearing in mind this guy is about my age & hardly has any teeth & every time I see him he complains about them I thought £400 for some new teeth would be a great idea, but chose not air my opinion & simply raised an eyebrow.

He then stuttered a bit & finally admitted that actually he had been wondering whether I'd had a boob job, because he'd noticed I'd 'grown' somewhat over the last couple of years & as his OH had hers done he just wondered if I had :o:o:rotfl::o:o.

Oh dear, that'll teach my ego not to listen.

We both laughed ( me rather shamefacedly ) & I revealed that actually I'd just put on loads of weight & that was where most of it ended up.

Lesson 1) - Listen when another person speaks, rather than assuming you know what they're going to say.

Lesson 2) - Lose some weight, quick.

So, 2 loads of laundry on the line, another one about to go out & then I'm going to bury myself in chores for the rest of the day.

  • Thanks for the sprinkling of happy dust - feeling better now back at home after braving the shops for the weekly shop - over and done with now and will be resting up with a cup of tea while the breadmaker magics up a loaf for tomorrow while deciding what to make for a casserole for tea.

That situation sounds a little embarressing today for you Lula! I think I would have expected the same too!

Poor you - what a shock with DD. I suppose she should thank her lucky stars that she had tidied up her bedroom a couple of weeks ago ...

As for the window cleaner ... well, I suppose it's flattering that he, um, has been looking and noticing. And just think what a celebrity in the locality it will make you when he tells all his other customers about the conversation. I can imagine how the conversation will go, but not to make your day worse, I will imagine quietly.

Wowza, kind of personal question!!! to say the least! Most people when they preface a question like that, it isn't that personal and is normally the kind of question I'd be happy to answer anyway....

But a boob job?! wow! I'd definitely need to be down the pub and on the wrong side of several glasses of red to be asking someone about that.....
