Frugal Living Challenge 2011 - part 2

Also if spending is possible vira soothe gel is amazing stuff. It really helped my son get over cpox quickly and not scar. This is something that I was very worried about as, when I was a child, I had chickenpox very badly and was confined to the house for over 5 weeks. I still have large deep scars all over my body and face from it and they are very obvious. Mind you my mothers treatment for chickenpox was to rub me in vinegar - not something I would recommend.Sealed pot member 735

Lush do a bath soak called Cerridwen's Cauldren that is basically oats and shea butter wrapped in muslin that you put in the bath and scrub with. its divine and so soothing. oh how i miss them, but they dont count as frugal or needed. so i'll try just the oats. thanks Gin!
risingfromtheashes - good luck with the 'waste ground' appeal. and good luck cerridwen with the continued forraging. (lets hope you dont live round the corner from each other!)
Lady lesley - have you changed your name? weren't you tr... farm? or are you someone else? or both?! i'm easily confused.
Just did a quick check:rotfl::rotfl:....as "risingfromtheashes" says she lives "near auld reekie" in her icon - I think that must mean she's somewheres in Scotland - so ...whew...nope:rotfl:. I'm living somewhere where every bit of land of every description seems to have all sorts of peeps/developers (apologies for use of a swear word:))/etc after it and its very upsettting for those of us who are "locals" watching so much greenery being replaced by building (and, at the least, loads of front gardens have now been concreted over for carparking:mad:) - as too many cars, as well as too many people, are trying to fit into the space here. (Thinks anxiously, in advance, as to how to pacify new neighbours if I'm ever able to move and the house I buy has had its front garden concreted over. I'm not going to be very popular at that point - with pneumatic drills in removing all the b****y concrete..Hopes hard that front garden will still BE front garden and I wont have to.....:().
I was wondering what had happened to Lesley's "name" and checked on her homepage and found I got the site - but the info. on it doesnt seem to be there anymore. Did find it (as it used to be) by googling though - and quickly copied down the nettle pasta recipe in case it vanished...:)
BTW: I'm not the ceridwen of Ceridwens Cauldon cosmetics - darn it...as I'd probably be rather better off than I actually am....:rotfl::(0 -

mad! glad you are still here despite it, what a terrible welcome!0 -
Thanks for the good wishes everyone - had some success! Should hopefully be able to move fence - as others have already done so the "precedent" has been set - just need to submit drawing to committee to get their approval. I did originally want to move it as the side of my garage is in the wasteland itself meaning access to it is very difficult (the builders apparently put 1/2 the garden fences in the wrong place & you can see where it should've been put if you look up the line). This would extend the garden by about 5 feet. However, a little bit extra for a small veg patch would be fantastic. Neighbours further up have extended by about 15 feet so would good to line up with that to keep the fence line tidy but there's a small matter of a gate (that the 5 feet would take me up to) at my end so not sure how to work around that:question:. May be busy with a measuring tape later!
ceridwen, yes I am in Scotland - near Edinburgh. Re any foragers, there is honestly no one goes into it and there is nothing in it apart from grass and weeds (believe me, I looked when I 1st moved in as I thought there may be bramble bushes etc). I so wish they'd planted a few apple/plum trees etc when they did it as there would be a lovely lot of fruit for the estate by now. The above mentioned gate is between me & my neighbour and is padlocked. It truly is wasted land and I discovered on Weds night that it's the size of 6:eek: football pitches (apparently a football pitch is between 1.5 & 2 acres) so that's a HUGE piece of land.
There's no allotment land to be had in the county (big waiting lists) and it's just soooooooooooooo frustrating to see it lying there doing nothing apart from grow weeds/grass up to your waist & being a haven for mice - my big cat brought me 21 the other day! The wee cat just brings them in the house - ALIVE!tumptyteapot wrote: »Frugal fail day - I phoned to cancel my mobile contract because i was going to get one with cashback and I got persuaded to spend £3 a month more on my contract for a phone with a better camera. Awwwww tumpty,:rotfl: that's why she's a saleswoman!:rotfl:
Saorsie - ouch to the spots, I'm afraid did have a chuckle at the thought of you & DH discovering them!
Kerry - glad you've got some work for next week, I did a lot of "exam watching" when I was temping, fingers crossed for a perm job soon.
Sandra - sorry to hear DH had a bit of a tumble.
Lesley - it never fails to astound me that some people don't have better things to do with their time! Nevermind, glad you're still here.
Sorry about the long post:eek:.
Does anyone have any good ideas on what I could use to clean my oven? (totally horrible) I've run out of oven cleaner and don't really want to buy more if I can help it.
Mist's not lifted here since Weds & not looking like it's going to go anywhere today either so may have to head inland to find some sun!

Thanks. The problem I have been finding when looking for permanent work is that I have been temping for about 8 years now, doing various work, mainly in an office environment. Temping for a long time, seems to put employers off. Have only been looking for permanent work recently.Frugal Living Challenge 2025 Mortgage free as of 1st August 20130 -
Hello Everyone
I haven't posted for ages and I've lost my way - Again!
Never mind, I have found my enthusiasm to carry on. I just find it all too much sometimes, especially when feeling bogged down with debt.
I would like to ask what is going on with Lady Lesley? Has this username now disappeared as well?

I'm having a long break from FL....I'm still around. You can still pm me. It was just too much pressure trying to keep up with all you frugal peeps. I'm going elsewhere on MSE.....Some folk still have me on fb so you can contact me via them...but really...I don't think you guys got me. Yes I was ill but some of the comments when I showed what ill really was and didn't just challenge you were a tad 19th century to say the least. I still press the abuse button when I see folk taking the Lord's name in vain. I'm a christian. It's not ill. It's my religion!
I had a great weekend in Inverness about a month ago that I wish I'd had 2 months sooner...it was that good.....Not really frugal but are these things ever? Best buy = popcorn maker for £2...came back laden with stuff. Went on the train. Got a good deal.
Also I've just finished decorating the lounge. Cost in total (with spare paint and including blinds and drapes) = £88 though that was spread cos £16 of paint I got yonks ago from a charity shop...Looks how I wanted it 15 years ago :j.
All I need to get now is wood stain and blinds for the rest of the flat I l love them that much

Well done on your decorating - you have been busy!

I don't know what sort of oven you've got, Rising from the ashes, and TBH I was never a great one for cleaning out ovensbut if you're trying to remove burnt grease on grills, roasting tins etc, washing soda dissolved in very hot water is an old method that works well. It might not be so good for an oven interior because of the difficulty of getting it all out afterwards. You don't want to be cooking in soda fumes.
I'm saving up citrus peel and big bottles to make the orange-based cleaning enzyme that somebody on here showed me ages ago. Should have enough to make a big supply soon. From the instructions, it looks as if it might actually be a form of alcohol, which should be interesting. No, I'm not going to drink it - there are limits, I'm not going to drink the cleaning products! - but I imagine it being like orange-scented surgical spirit, something like that.
Oh, and great news about the land! :j Well done!'Whatever you dream you can do, begin it. Boldness has genius, power and magic in it. Begin now.' Goethe
